Open-plan and open-minded, Cambridge is best known for university colleges dating to the 13th century. King’s College is the most popular, and its chapel choir is internationally famous. Although accessed from cobbled King’s Parade, it is best viewed from a punt on The Backs, the part of the River Cam behind.
Cambridge punting is an institution and gives great views of Queen’s College Mathematical Bridge and the Bridge of Sighs at St John’s College. Upstream is Jesus Green, site of an outdoor pool and a fantastic beer festival. Next to this is Midsummer Common, a park home to the annual Strawberry Fair (and the occasional cow). Opposite are the college boathouses - get up early to see the rowers in action!
Cows also roam the Mill Pond meadow, where the river leads south to Grantchester, a quaint village with a lovely cafe. Places to eat in Cambridge include riverside restaurants and typical English pubs like The Eagle, drinking hole of DNA founders Watson & Crick.
Cambridge shopping options include a daily market (in Market Square), the Grafton Centre and the exclusive Grand Arcade, the latest addition. The Scott Polar Museum and free Fitzwilliam Museum are 2 of many fantastic Cambridge museums.
Stansted Airport is connected by train to the city’s accommodation choices on Booking.com.

Cambridge is really a mix.
Cambridge is really a mix. It has two faces: a college town with lots of students and a hugely modern commercial center. Very different from Oxford, where the downtown has classic stuff only and on the edge is a super modern shopping center. Cambridge has all in one place. Right in the middle of the old town, is a huge shopping mall. I should say both are well merged,
We enjoyed exploring (on foot) all the small windy alleyways, cobble stoned passages with towering college buildings on both sides, churches and chapels, green college campuses, Cambridge castle ground overlooking the entire town. We enjoyed evening mass at King's College Chapel (quire's evening song was amazing, free to visit, but you need to stand in line in a timely way to get in), and enjoyed reasonable food at the covered market (we visited there twice for reasonable eats).
One and a half days were not enough in visiting all the wonderful museums ( we visited Fitzwilliam Museum, Sedgewick Museum of Earth Sciences, Whipple Museum of the History of Science!--we did not have time to visit Museum of Classical Archeology)!
On a sunny day, canal walk and a visit to botanical garden must be fun!

I like the city- my daughter is a student here.
I like the city- my daughter is a student here. Always feels very safe etc. Beautiful obviously with great shops restaurants and places to visit
It’s really toxic to car drivers though- ridiculous parking charges, poorly indicated bus lanes with very aggressive cameras.
Very poor and over priced public transport.
I suspect it’s deliberate council policy to deter drivers, but until they sort the public transport they will still come. I brought my 80 years old mother so had no choice but to drive really. Not very welcoming to wheelchairs so a big fail for their EDI.
A bad taste in the mouth when you have spent a fortune on parking and then taxis only to come home to bus lane fines when I want even aware I had contravened

Cambridge is an outstanding city.
Cambridge is an outstanding city. It is beautiful, the colleges and their grounds are stunning. The architecture is impressive, there are great museums to visit, a very good shopping area and a plethora of good cafes and restaurants. It's great to walk along the River Cam and see the rowers out or experience punting. We didn't go, but we understand there's an ice rink too.

Used The Mitre pub for our first evening then The Boatman a local pub for the rest of the break. Found the town prices very high to what we are used to. Need to watch the cyclists they do not appear to adhere to any rules.

See reviews by guests who stayed at hotels in Cambridge
We arrived after a tiring journey, feeling tired, but within a minute of walking into reception. Eva on reception lightened our mood with her friendly, helpful attitude. We have stayed at a number of hotels in Cambridge, but this is the best for value for money, room size, cleanliness and staff attitude.
Everything! The hotel is a bit outside of the centre but it is easily reachable by walking, by bus or by taxi. There is a big supermarket and bars next door. The rooms are large and functional. The personnel is very kind. Incredible value for money compared to Cambridge city centre!
Hotel The Cambridge Guest House is an excellent choice in Cambridge. The location is perfect and close to the city centre, the staff were brilliant and very helpful. The room was great, nice view and very clean. Will be definetely coming back!
A brand new hotel that is easily accessible from M1 direction. There is a public transport nearby which takes about 25 minutes to Cambridge city centre. Breakfast is good.
