Artist Residence Oxfordshire, hotel in Oxford

Set in Oxford, 16 km from Blenheim Palace, Artist Residence Oxfordshire offers accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a terrace and a restaurant.

I have stayed here many times now and normally really enjoy my stay. However it was my first time staying in room 12. It was tiny and freezing cold with no way of adjusting the heating. As I love stayed many times before an upgrade on a quite night would have helped. However now I left wondering if I’ll bother going back.

FAQs about hotels in Oxford

City of Dreaming Spires

Boasting magnificent academic heritage, Oxford is a beautiful city where Gothic spires intermingle with medieval colleges. Comprising England’s oldest university, most of the 38 unique colleges are sadly only viewable from the outside. Two visitable ones are Magdalen College, considered one of the most beautiful, and Christchurch College whose quadrangle was used in the 1st Harry Potter film. Its cathedral choir also sings evensong.

Other notable colleges are Balliol and Merton, the 2 oldest, while Hertford College has the Bridge of Sighs. Next door is the cavernous Bodleian Library, overlooking the round Radcliffe Camera, the city’s best-known landmark.

The university also has a botanical garden and the best Oxford museums, including the Ashmolean Museum and Natural History Museum, where swifts nest in summer.

Unsurprisingly for a student town, it has lots of bars and restaurants. Oxford shopping is also good and includes England’s oldest covered market, brightly coloured High Street shops, and the Clarendon and Westgate shopping centres.

Whether you arrive by road or fly into London Oxford Airport, don’t leave without trying Oxford punting. In contrast to rival Cambridge, you punt here by standing in the front (rather than on the back). Easily accessed from the Oxford accommodation on Booking.com, the routes take in the River Cherwell and the Isis (the name for this part of the Thames).

On the approach to Oxford city centre very run down houses, quite dirty, plenty of shops when you get to the centre also plenty of people, the university buildings are quite stunning architecturally and a visit to Oxford prison is a must had a very good tour with a very knowledgable lady that cost eighteen pounds a person and lasted about an hour. Didn’t eat in the centre as it was so very busy, it was graduation day for some students so lots of extra people about. Buses galore, pushbikes and scooters are the preferred way to get about. As it was a cold November Saturday we didn’t visit the botanical gardens as not sure would have seen them at their best. Would we go back? I don’t think so

I was looking for an overnight stay at very last minute as my wife was detained in hospital, generally speaking the last minute costs are very high when compared to a booking made (say) 14 days ahead. Car traffic can be horrendous, took an hour leaving at 16:00 on a weekday to do 3 miles. Many roads restricted width due to apparent universal existence of cycle lanes. Public transport seems faster until they can't avoid traffic jams, all very clean and most buses seem to be electric. Food - a wide choice but generally quite expensive. Had no time to see visitor attractions

Our experiences in the UK had mainly been trips to London. So this was a different experience. We loved it.If u could find a place like this in the US I might retire there. So much to see and do and many good pubs restaurants and shopping. Its easy to get back and forth to the city and to the surrounding areas.I like that it's very walkable and has good buses.

    I loved Oxford.

I loved Oxford. Its History, its historic buildings and atmoshere. Quirky shops, wonderful cafes, old pubs and market. The Botanic gardens and greenhouses are worth a visit and the castle. The tours are very interesting. And there is a also a nice modern shopping centre. Park and ride easy to use and encouraged. But you can park in the centre car park. Will come back in the Summer and go on the river

I very much enjoyed a two hour free walking tour led by an Oxford graduate who had a lot of interesting things to say about her experience at Oxford and was very knowledgeable on its history and buildings. I also visited some of the buildings from inside, such as the Divinity School and others nearby. My evening meals were at two Italian restaurants nearby, ASK and Bella Italia. (The main purpose of my visit was to attend a family wedding and one evening was spent at the Ashmolean where the reception was held.) Being a solo traveller presented no problems at all.
