This was my second time at the Annex Turtle, and I was as happy as I was the first time. The hot bath is still great and this was going from winter (seeing snow outside) to Spring (seeing blossoms and greens outside) If you want to have a bit of a view, ask for the room further away from the hot tub. The service is homely and nice, and you can get your teas and instant coffees in the reception area for free. I didn't have breakfast, so don't know. The property is right (and I mean right) to the Road of Buddha's, but also walkable distance to everything else. The lady explains everything very well in English of where to go, which restaurants are still open past 21.00 and so on. There's also a Lawson's nearby so you can stock up for food, drinks and snacks. As I said, I booked it a second time.

We loved this stay! 40 min walking distance from Tobu Nikko or 15/20 by bus, and the location is the BEST. Right next to a beautiful river, close to a few sightseeing spots, with a lovely onsen. My husband and I enjoyed our 2 nights here. Would definitely go back.

We would have liked a reading light in the room.

The Annex Turtle Hotori-An is a great place to stay. It’s in a lovely and quiet location with scenic views of the surrounding hills. Well located for a number of Nikko’s attractions, it offers value for money with its own onsen and comfortable traditional Japanese style lodging.

Location from the station a bit far. Took a bus and had small bags so not a problem but with big bags would be cumbersome.

Quiet scenic location. Everything walking distance. There are several restaurants near by. We didn’t have breakfast at the property so can’t comment. Lovely private onsen. First come first serve. Next to the river so can watch the river flowing by from the onsen. Kanmangafuchi Abyss starts at the hotel. Don’t miss it.

Location is a bit far from bus stop, so if you have luggage be prepared to hoof it for a bit.

In general it was clean, no comments on that. Except the aircondition filters. They were covered in dust (as it is in most hotels and B&B due to use and sometimes not proper cleaning), however these were cloghed by a thick layer of dust.

All good. Nice staff, a good onsun with lovely view (tip: go in the afternoon instead at night to enjoy the view). Good beds. Tip for breakfast (beside at the B&B): Cottage Inn restaurant, mainstreet Tip for dinner: local japanese restaurant Cafe Restaurant Bell and aks for the meal of the monks. Visit all the temples and shrines

The location is amazing. Close to the river and to the Kanmangafuchi Abyss. The Japanese style room was clean and more then large enough for one person. Friendly staff and a nice common area where you could get snacks for a small price and water and tea for free. To end, my absolute favorite: the onsen! With the 30 minutes per person system, which is more then long enough, you can enjoy the bath and the view all by yourself. Amazing!

Can't think of anything! Be aware there aren't many restaurants nearby so dinner might be a bit of a challenge, but there's a convenience store nearby (10 min walk) or you can take the bus into town.

Nikko can become quite crowded, but that won't affect you in this hotel. It's on the edge of town and thus away from the masses, but still perfectly situated to plan your visit to the surrounding area. Personnel is extremely friendly and facilities are really nice, especially the in-house onsen. Traditional room is a great experience - just make sure to bring an eye cover if you are a light sleeper (the traditional windows don't really keep the light out).

The cutest ryokan next to the gorgeous river, with the sweetest ryokan keeper ever. She was so kind and made sure to make our stay comfortable. It was amazing to fall asleep to the sound of the river on a comfortable bed after a soak in the private onsen. Can't wait to go back!

Simple the best stay we had in Japan. Excellent service. Very welcoming and benevolent hosts. We were provided with detailed information on the sites to visit + a clear map. Clean and rather spacious room with a lovely view and on river stream. Onsen and yukata. Plenty to do around by walk. Tea and coffee available+ fridge and microwave Lovely onsen/sento that can be used privately We loved the serene and family feeling of this small hotel. We will happily come back someday!

Really special accomodation. We stayed as a couple in the traditional Japanese room. The staff was lovely, the surrounding area was beautiful and close to all main sights and the bus station, but still kind of nestled away in a beautiful japanese suburban area. It is quiet and right next to the river. From our room we had a river view and could hear the stream at night. Restaurants were close by. The breakfast was nice, the staff was really helpful and provided information about the main sights. The private onsen bath also had a river view and Kimono-type clothing was provided for the visit. It was one of my favorite places that we stayed at in Japan. It really made Nikko one of the most romantic destinations.

Not complaints, but information We were there just before Golden Week so it was really quite expensive. Not many restaurants nearby so you have to walk down the hill which is short but steep

Could have used pegs in the foyer, bathroom or closet for the robes.

We loved the Japanese style rooms, robes, onsite onsen. We also loved the location with a river view yet still near amenities such as the bus and the Lawsons convenience market. Staff was very friendly and helpful (called us a cab on our last day when it was pouring rain and we were starting 14 hours of travel and didn't want to start it by getting soaking wet walking the few blocks to the bus).
