Dog and Partridge Inn, hotel in Sutton Benger

Set in Calne, 15 km from Lacock Abbey, Dog and Partridge Inn offers accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a restaurant and a bar.

Extremely friendly staff, welcoming and easy going, great car parking, easy to find. Busy with predominantly young clientele, excellent bar. No food available on a Sunday evening which is fair enough, but no breakfast on Monday morning which as a disappointment. Room spotless and spacious, good shower, but very basic-no bedside lights for example. Also the internet was unworkable from my room. Overall though, great value for money, ideal if you just want somewhere to sleep for the night, friendly and clean.

Calne Bed and Breakfast, hotel in Sutton Benger

Calne Bed and Breakfast is set in Calne, 14 km from Lacock Abbey, 23 km from Lydiard Park, and 32 km from Royal Crescent. This 3-star bed and breakfast features free WiFi and a garden.

The location was perfect for us. Plenty of on road parking, super quiet, easy to find. The owner was in contact with us with full address and other useful information before we arrived. She ran through all the facilities with us - shower, front door key etc. The room was furnished ‘shaker style’ with rugs on floorboards and mismatched furniture, rather than ultra modern and all matching, which we liked. All the facilities that we look for were there ( kettle, mugs, hanging and storage space, tv, nice big towels, comfy bed, warm and cosy, local information, good wifi). The owner cooked us a very tasty full English breakfast both days, with proper coffee, home made marmalade, quality toast and we could have had freshly squeezed orange juice if we had wanted.

Not much to say, it's a pretty village, with not much going on. I didn't spend any time exploring or visiting there - I was only there on Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday and everything was closed. I drove into Chippenham for something to eat on Sunday evening and on Monday I spent the day in Stanton St Quinton at a wedding.
