This peaceful, elegant hotel with a country-manor style is a 10-minute walk from Oxford city centre. It has a restaurant and bar, a cosy lounge, and pleasant guest bedrooms.

The staff were lovely. My courtyard room was great, and the breakfast was fabulous. Except for Mr Grumpy eating his breakfast, it was a total delight . But the staff handled him wonderfully, and he did make me smile to myself.. I absolutely loved this place

Artist Residence Oxfordshire, hotel in Oxford

This property is located in the village of South Leigh, just 15 minutes' drive to Oxford city centre and a 20-minute drive from the Cotswolds.

Staff members were helpful, polite and friendly. The accommodation was an experience. Had to walk through a herb garden to the quarters. Really nice. The location was great; peaceful with bird song. Well proportioned with everything you could need. The bar/dining area was interesting. Pictures, a large fireplace; what caught my eye was the cabinet with woven reincarnation of food stuffs long since made redundant. I though they were real at first. The different types of outdoor seating was amazing. I aim to try the rooms as they were all unique, quirky. Just what I like. All in all it was a pleasant environment with all age groups catered for. I will be visiting again.

FAQs about hotels in Oxford

City of Dreaming Spires

Boasting magnificent academic heritage, Oxford is a beautiful city where Gothic spires intermingle with medieval colleges. Comprising England’s oldest university, most of the 38 unique colleges are sadly only viewable from the outside. Two visitable ones are Magdalen College, considered one of the most beautiful, and Christchurch College whose quadrangle was used in the 1st Harry Potter film. Its cathedral choir also sings evensong.

Other notable colleges are Balliol and Merton, the 2 oldest, while Hertford College has the Bridge of Sighs. Next door is the cavernous Bodleian Library, overlooking the round Radcliffe Camera, the city’s best-known landmark.

The university also has a botanical garden and the best Oxford museums, including the Ashmolean Museum and Natural History Museum, where swifts nest in summer.

Unsurprisingly for a student town, it has lots of bars and restaurants. Oxford shopping is also good and includes England’s oldest covered market, brightly coloured High Street shops, and the Clarendon and Westgate shopping centres.

Whether you arrive by road or fly into London Oxford Airport, don’t leave without trying Oxford punting. In contrast to rival Cambridge, you punt here by standing in the front (rather than on the back). Easily accessed from the Oxford accommodation on Booking.com, the routes take in the River Cherwell and the Isis (the name for this part of the Thames).

I very much enjoyed a two hour free walking tour led by an Oxford graduate who had a lot of interesting things to say about her experience at Oxford and was very knowledgeable on its history and buildings. I also visited some of the buildings from inside, such as the Divinity School and others nearby. My evening meals were at two Italian restaurants nearby, ASK and Bella Italia. (The main purpose of my visit was to attend a family wedding and one evening was spent at the Ashmolean where the reception was held.) Being a solo traveller presented no problems at all.

Oxford is a beautifull city, very typical English. Quite busy due to the amount of tourists. The nature around Oxford is great! It's really a good idea to go for a hike nearby to explore the surroundings instead of only the city.

Nice city, lots to do, fine and curious museums, great architecture, a nice vibe. The market food stalls in Gloucester Green make my mouth water, just remembering them! Getting about the city is hard, now. Buses bunch together or don't turn up. As a result, I missed my visit to the Ashmolean, a huge disappointment. Nice people and manners on the buses, though. Friendly.

I love the buildings although I can't manage the towers any more. Shopping is good and you have the Westgate centre. I've arrived too soon for the Xmas markets in broad Street but there was a street food market and stalls off George Street. I visited just to dine at Gino's Italian restaurant. As our hotel was near the station we got a bit lazy and jumped on a bus (5 mins) back to base. There are two Wetherspoons in the centre of town .As Morse was folded here you get tourist's reliving the moment.

Oxford is a lovely historic city and mainly setup to serve the students of 40+ colleges scattered around. There is wealth of museums and historic buildings to visit like the Ashmolean, Pitt Rivers, Natural history museum and the Bodlien libarary. Its pretty much a walking city and if you want to ride the electric bus service is excellent.

Oxford offers so many places to eat and drink, plus the history is incredible. I am a Tolkien fan and I been to many of his homes and locations his haunts. But I discovered new places too, such as the Trout, a wonderful pub along the Thames northwest of town.

Very cosy rooms, lovely bathroom and very clean. Fabulous bus links into the city centre that were right outside the hotel and really cheap too. If you don't want to travel to Oxford centre, summertown is up the road with some nice bars and restaurants and cheap parking. Excellent service and very friendly. One of the hostesses remembered my coffee order the next morning and brought it over with a big smile. Would stay again.

The apartment is located in a very calm and quiet area, expensive residential area of Oxford, wak distance 20 mins from the city centre. The room is equipped with what is needed. It is suitable for longer stay as well. Fortunately, the cleaning lady showed me how to get the key upon the arrival, so I had no troubles with getting the key. Their sister hotels in the city centre can help which was quite convenient for me.
