The location was perfect (close to my mother's carehome), and we had a fabulous walk before dark, and a visit to the *remarkable* church in the village. It is a magical place, the pub/bar and location especially, and we did enjoy dinner in the restaurant.

FAQs about hotels in Oxford

City of Dreaming Spires

Boasting magnificent academic heritage, Oxford is a beautiful city where Gothic spires intermingle with medieval colleges. Comprising England’s oldest university, most of the 38 unique colleges are sadly only viewable from the outside. Two visitable ones are Magdalen College, considered one of the most beautiful, and Christchurch College whose quadrangle was used in the 1st Harry Potter film. Its cathedral choir also sings evensong.

Other notable colleges are Balliol and Merton, the 2 oldest, while Hertford College has the Bridge of Sighs. Next door is the cavernous Bodleian Library, overlooking the round Radcliffe Camera, the city’s best-known landmark.

The university also has a botanical garden and the best Oxford museums, including the Ashmolean Museum and Natural History Museum, where swifts nest in summer.

Unsurprisingly for a student town, it has lots of bars and restaurants. Oxford shopping is also good and includes England’s oldest covered market, brightly coloured High Street shops, and the Clarendon and Westgate shopping centres.

Whether you arrive by road or fly into London Oxford Airport, don’t leave without trying Oxford punting. In contrast to rival Cambridge, you punt here by standing in the front (rather than on the back). Easily accessed from the Oxford accommodation on Booking.com, the routes take in the River Cherwell and the Isis (the name for this part of the Thames).

I enjoyed the covered market as it had a wide range of independent shops to browse, as well as local history. I wish I'd spent another day here exploring the ashmolean museum and a lovely looking restaurant called The Alice, furnished exclusively with Alice in Wonderland paintings.

Oxford has become one of my favorite places.

Oxford has become one of my favorite places. Away from the bustle of London and a good blend of city life and the charm of the Cotswolds. Oxford I believe is one if the most unique cities in the world. A short distance to some of the most picturesque areas of the Cotswolds and Gloucestershire. From Oxford I have done day trips as far south as Bournemouth. A must see is Blenheim Palace, Churchill’s family home, only 20 mins away. Towns such as Broadway, Bibury, cirencester, Burford, Burton-on-the-Water and Chipping Norton, just to name a few, are a must see. The town of Bath, with its Roman ruins is only a short 55 mile drive. The city of Oxford itself, has so much charm and you can just feel the history in its air and aura. Sit in pubs where Lewis Carroll, writer of Alice in Wonderland, Albert Einstein, David Cameron and Hugh Grant used to frequent. So all in all you won’t even need to visit London, there is a whole vacation just in and around Oxford.

Oxford is beautiful architecturally. We went for a theatre visit so did not get to explore the area as we would have liked given more time. Oxford has a lot to offer historically and I certainly will be returning.

Oxford is a great place to visit, there’s plenty to do and explore. The main reason for my visit was to see “War Horse” at the New Theatre. What a show that was. I highly recommend it. The Christmas market in Broad Street is a must see. The double deck carousel looks amazing. The Wig and Pen opposite the theatre is a great place to eat, very nice food at reasonable prices.

We only stayed one night- that was enough for us. We got all the common sites in except the library. Well all the normal sites I imagine we missed a lot too. Book a walking tour, it gives you so much more info, and pre book a visit to the library. We were there the beginning of December and the city was very busy, I can’t imagine it at high tourist time- it would not be enjoyable.

Oxford, and the surrounding area, was delightful, a lovely mix of old and modern. The pubs we visited were friendly. We enjoyed the museums, as well as an interesting walk along the canal from Iffley into the City itself. Well worth a visit

Everything. The staff were extremely friendly, except for one girl who worked the bar in the evening, she was very miserable. Daniel on the reception desk was lovely as was Alfie who worked the bar in the evening. The location was great because the park and ride was literally over the road so we walked there and got the bus straight into Oxford City Centre. The food was great, the breakfast had plenty of choice and was always hot. We ate at the hotel in the lounge area every evening and there were plenty of choices on the menu.

The staff throughout hotel were superb including the waiting and cleaning members. They seem to genuinely enjoy their job. Indian restaurant opposite hotel. Good service and delicious food. Love this hotel. Quirky. Friendly and helpful staff. Our room was clean and good facilities. Slightly smaller than expected. Would book a bigger one next time. Good breakfast- lots of choice. Car park behind hotel. Narrow entrance for my car. Close to city centre- catch a bus from outside hotel. We hired scooters for the day. Easy way to see Oxford.

The location is very good. It was very easy to walk to Oxford city centre in 25min. I appreciate the persons at the reception...Diana, Ruby etc...but the best of the hotel is the comfort of the bed...I stayed in a kingsize bed sleeping as in a dream :). Pillows very comfortable and the temperature of the room good for sleeping. If you are going to go in Oxford, this hotel is for you...

Hotel was perfect location for our dinner at Somerville College and for all the sites of Oxford 12 min walk to city centre & hotel has parking. Staff were very obliging & the room super comfortable & thoughtfully resourced with for example fresh milk. Food is good enough and certainly well cooked and tasty.
