Great location, excellent staff. We thought we would eat out in the evenings, but there are’’t many restaurants near by, so we booked dinner each night (and had breakfast included), the food was great with Japanese style, loads of options for us and the kids. Super fun, welcoming and easy place to stay.

Surrounded by carpark, roads, buildings so children don’t have an area next to hotel to play with snow. Need to take bus to Prince hotel west building or Maruike for children ski school, babysitting child-care service and snow playground.

Great value. The tatami room was spacious and bright with view of ski slopes. The rooms w twin beds were small and dark but clean and comfy. The heater in one room spoiled so they promptly gave a portable heater. Located 1 min walk from a ski lift but the red and green slopes there are steep so unsuitable for warm-up or beginners. 3 mins walk from bus stop with free local shuttle bus which goes to all the Shiga kogen ski areas and bus interchange where you can draw cash from atm and take a bus to nagano train station. Food is western and Japanese buffet for breakfast and dinner. Delicious, varied and menu changes daily. Come on time to eat all the dishes as some are not replenished if they run out but are instead replaced with new dishes. Ski and snowboard rentals are very cheap SGD 12/day/set but not the best quality and we had to exchange ours once. Can buy ski passes directly at front desk but only in cash.

We had an issue with the shower in our room, but the staff were quick to fix it The hotel is quite dated, but still relatively well-maintained Wi-fi was very poor in the rooms The washlet seat didn't quite fit the toilet so it would move around a bit

Breakfast was nice, the staff were mostly very friendly, though only a few could speak English Location was great, near the bus station and right in front of the lifts so you could easily access neighboring ski areas by skiing or by bus

The room we stayed in (Family Japanese Style) was hot! We couldn't figure out any way to cool it down without opening a window. With the monkeys walking around we didn't want to do that.

The staff was so friendly, The dog at the front desk was adorable! The access to the slopes can't be beat. The onsen was decent. The food at the restaurant was pretty good!

    Nothing. All good.

Shiga Kogen is a well preserved ski resort area from the 1990's Don't expect the latest fancy tech or decor, but the facilities are great and you can't beat this well-run Japanese lodge/hotel. We took the local bus from the station at the bottom of the hill because the express coach was either booked out or not running - not to worry, it was perfectly fine and a nice trip. Our tatami mat room for 3 was a great size with a private bathroom. Floor too hard? Just pile up extra futons if your room has extra! We looked across the road to the chair lift and it was walking distance to several other hotels which had everyday restaurants. Food at Sunny was terrific. Every day we had a variety of Japanese and western foods for breakfast, but the dinner excelled. Hotpots to cook at your table and all sorts of Japanese loveliness...wonderful! We ate lunches on the ski-fields at one or other of the cafeterias. All the food and drink was very good. As always the onsen was a highlight. A nice big size with comfortable changing area. The lodge has ski rental downstairs (VERY handy) and a drying/storage room. The whole experience made skiing so much easier. Many ski runs were easily accessible from Sunny. Shiga Kogen is a place to go and ski not to party. Just ski in the day and relax in the evening in an onsen and sleep under a fluffy duvet...Enjoy.

The breakfast and dinner were not very good. The location means that you do not have many other options for dinner. The ski hire in the hotel was very bad quality.

Breakfast was not so good - neither from Japanese breakfast or foreign breakfast point of view.

Staff were very nice, location is excellent for the Takamagahara ski area. Dinner each evening was good and they went to a real effort to make it interesting. Japanese style rooms are very clean (I could not sleep so well but that is because I have a bad back - not the hotel’s fault).

Dated hotel as noted, but it is clean and other positives more than make up for it.

Yes, it is a dated hotel. However, the value, location, friendly staff and nightly dinner buffets more than make up for it. Conveniently located across the Tagamagahara lifts and near the bus/shuttle stops. Hotel will also aid with your Yamato/Ta-q-bin delivery/pickup needs. We booked a private bathroom room and it was very roomy with enough space/storage for 4 of us. Would stay here again.

Some may not be very used to sleeping on Japanese style futons. Just book a western style bed rooms if so.

The staffs were very welcoming and helpful. The hotel is just in front of Tagamagahara Mammoth slopes so thats super convenient. The meals were awesome 😀 and they change the buffet style menu every evenings. Very well insulated and we were warm and cozy throughout our stay.

Whilst it was pricey and certain items like goggle hire were more expensive, it was the norm for Japan.

Great facilities including in-house onsen, tea/coffee, bar, restaurant, shop, ski rental, etc. Service was exceptional and the best we had in Japan. When we left, we waited for the bus which ever came because the but time table just changed to spring time meaning there won't be a bus for quite some time. The lady at reception apologised (even though it was not her fault at all) and drove us to the train station in heavy fog so that we could make our train on time. Going out of your way for the customer is just something I've never seen at this level! Congrats!

poor wifi connection which every single Japanese hotel has the same issue.

the location was very near to ski lift and they have rental for ski equipment. also not too high on Shiga kogen which can be hard to drive in winter when there is snow. the onsen is quite big compared to other hotel I have stayed and there are washing machine and dryers which allows me to do my laundry.

A little farther from Ichinose Family Snow Park than I realized, but that was my mistake.

The staff were super friendly and helpful. We only booked one room, but it was kind of small for our family of four, so they provided us with 2 rooms! The vibe was chill and fun, and the hot spring bath (onsen) was a great way to unwind at the end of the day. Dinners were also delicious.

Not much to not like, however as a westerner the beds where very firm. They also only do single beds, but that’s fairly normal by the looks of it.

We loved our experience at this hotel. As first timers to Japan it was an awesome introduction. The staff where fabulous and helpful. We found communicating pretty easy, we loved the Japanese buffet style breakfasts and dinners, and the Japanese food in general, they where also happy to cater for the vegetarian in our group. We had two rooms, one western style and one Japanese style room which our 20 year daughter used, she had no trouble sleeping on the futon mats. If you are a family with young children the Japanese style rooms are great. Being so close to the Takamahara ski lift was such a bonus, it was literally across the road. They have great ski dry rooms for the end of the day. I also highly recommend using the luggage courier system to transport ski gear to the hotel, you just need to allow for 48 hours for your gear to reach its destination. We couriered 2 ski bags and a large bag directly to Narita airport at the end of our stay while we spent two days in Tokyo, it was cheap and super efficient. I highly recommend this hotel.
