The Ryokan provided a traditional setting. The room was fabulous and the atmosphere brilliant. We couldn’t have asked for a better time.
We also had their breakfast which was a great experience as we got to taste some authentic Japanese dishes.

“Location is perfect. You can easily stroll along the temple uphill after all tourists are gone. Just watch out all the shops in the street close around 4/5ish. Restaurants are available within 5min walk downhill”
“Great location across the road from the train and bus station. Room was large by Japanese standards and facilities excellent. Coin operated laundry and microwave available plus extra pillows and other options on each floor. Didn’t inc breakfast but excellent options all around hotel for all meals.”
“One of my favorite stays during my trip, in most part thanks to the staff, who are super friendly and welcoming. Unlike a lot of hostels which are just places to crash after a long day, the 1166 gives you the social aspect too. I spent at least one hour in the evening chatting with the staff and other travelers, with a cup of oolong tea and some snacks. That social experience made all the difference for me, and I warmly recommend this place to anyone who would like to mingle with locals/travelers.
Also, the location is within reasonable walking distance from the train station (I did leave my big suitcase in a coin locker though), and very close to Zenkoji”
“Very good location next to the train station. Staff was friendly and explained everything clearly. Otherwise pretty standard capsule hotel, felt rather warm and welcoming too. There's even a laundry room, although I didn't use it. And of course the price is unbeatable”
