Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustriaThe location is quite far from everything. The bus ride from Nagano station was about half an hour, with the snowstorm up to an hour! The nearest Convenience Store is located inside a hospital, which you need masks for to enter!
It’s a cozy place, feels very intimate! We liked the well equipped kitchen and the heated blankets. As there was a snowstorm on our first day, Yamamoto-san was so nice to give us a ride to the Onsen with his car, he even picked us up afterwards!

JapanThe shared facilities was cold when we went in winter when the heaters weren't on. Otherwise this is a great place to stay!
The owners were wonderful and extremely knowledgeable about the area. The location was perfect as it was so close to the toll roads which made travelling around Nagano easier. We had a great time having a drink with the owners and they were kind enough to make a few local dishes to try!

JapanThe time to check in is between 5 and 9 pm, and you have to check-out before 9 a.m. because the walls are thin, you have to be really quiet in the common area to not disturb other guests.
The host is friendly, and the kitchen and beds are good. In winter, we got an electric heated blanket, so it was not cold at all during the night.

AustraliaThe room was very bare but it was comfortable.
It was a very quirky place. The host was quite welcoming. The room.was very sparse. It was located a long way from Nagano city. But public transport was available. #30 from the station.

AustraliaThe room was extremely cold until we put the heaters on, but we still felt a draft coming through the walls and floor at night (it was -8 degrees). The mattresses are very thin and on a wooden base so you can feel the planks through them. Its not in Nagano, its a 30 minute bus ride in the opposite direction to the snow monkeys, and there was limited restaurants or shops open at night, so you may have to eat at Lawsons if you want dinner.
The host was lovely and offered information about how to get to the snow monkeys. There was electric blankets on the beds which was definitely needed as it was freezing in the room.

JapanThe host, Yamamoto-san is really friendly and was soooo kind with us 🥹💛We are very grateful with him, as we had a night bus to go back to Kyoto, and he realized that the stop was on the highway and offered us a ride, at the time we did not realize it but he really saved us as the subway/bus left us almost 20 min away and we would have walked with our suitcases in the cold, snow and almost in the dark. Also, the beds are very comfortable, the futon has an electric heater included which is amazing. The bathroom, bedrooms, living room and even the shower have heaters. We had an amazing stay!! and although the transportation system is a bit sparse in Nagano, we were able to go to several onsens, temples, we went to Matsumoto and the Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park. We had a blast!

AustraliaWe stayed here for one night and had a wonderful stay. The host was very generous as he dropped us off at an onsen and later picked us up in his car. It was our first onsen so we were very grateful he told us about it. Matsushiro is a hidden gem with lots of interesting history! The hostel was close to the bus stop - a one minute walk. And Matsushiro is only a 30 minute bus ride from Nagano. Also, the hostel is very clean and with only one dorm room felt like an intimate and genuine Japanese experience. ありがとうございます!

GermanyThis has nothing to do with the homestay but with the public transport: The connection to Nagano City with the main train station could be better. Takes roughly 1 hour with two bus lines.
It's a small, very cozy guesthouse in the suburbs from Nagano. Our host was lovely and even drove us to the nearest onsen. We also had our best hiking trips with amazing views of the snowy mountains, just in front of the guesthouse. The beds are really comfortable and we had the best sleep. The homestay has everything needed besides toiletries also a fully equipped kitchen. In the small town you find everything you need, a familymart, small restaurants, post and onsen. We really loved it!

JapanFor the price, the location and Guesthouse was extremely good! The owner is also so sweet and drove me to the mountains because I told him I really wanted to climb them. The beds are also super comfy, the showers are spacious, you even have a small kitchen, and the bus station is 200 ft from the guesthouse, as well! Definitely worth the stay and I definitely want to stay here again!
