Loved the HCM mausoleum, train street and just walking around the old and French quarters. It’s an easy walking city. Food is generally very good wherever you go - highly consistent and well-priced.
For transport we used the Grab app (their version of Uber). Cheap to ride, reliable and clean cars.

Hustling city, friendly people, lots of great street foods, lots of hidden gems, a great place to get lost, downside was only as i came during summer June, it was hot whole day and evening as well, super humid, will come back again in better temp days such as spring or autumn or maybe winter ! Last but not least, Hanoi is very good value for accomodation and food compared to other SEA cities such as Bangkok, etc

Hmmmmm, the longer you stay, the less you pay. Try to find accommodation away from the old quarter, try to learn a little Vietnamese, if you get invited to join, accept gracefully. The locals here are truly amazing if you are open and kind.
Transportation is pretty easy, food is amazing, beer is cheap.
You are in the heart of the North here, if you stay only 3 days, I honestly don't think you've experienced the real Hanoi.
If you are a 3-day tourist,stay in the old quarter, there's many tourist attractions,and many people speak English, which I enjoy from time to time.
But if you want authentic, venture out and stay at least 2-4weeks.

A vibrant, friendly city, bursting with organised chaos. Friendly people and feels extremely safe. I didn't have time to explore beyond the Old Quarter, but loved the street food, "beer corner", the small places selling the fresh local beer ("bia hoi"), the night market, and the museums I managed to visit - Hoa Lo prison, Military Museum and Imperial Citadel
I could have happily spentmany more days drinking flavoured coffees and teas, trying local dishes and watching the city go past.
This is a great place to stay in the Old Quarter of Hanoi. On the weekends the walk only zone is literally on your doorstep! The hotel is small and the staff look after your every need and are extremely friendly. Mike reached out to us even before we arrived to offer any assistance we needed. While we at the hotel Mike and the other staff were fast with service and so friendly! The whole place is spotlessly clean and the breakfast is great, with made to order items as well as the best spring rolls we had in Hanoi!
In the middle of the old quarter of Hanoi, the Hotel is like an oasis of quiet. It has a glamorous interior and beautiful rooms. When we arrived the staff welcomed us, they took their time for our requests and when we told them that it was our last night in Vietnam, we got an upgrade to make it memorable... Awesome of them :)
The restaurant is on the top floor with a great view around the city and the buffet was perfect, It was the best breakfast I had in Vietnam. If you can afford it, go here for a night or two!
Amazing location, in a quiet corner but right beside to the main streets of the Old Quarter. Perfect location to rest in a quiet environment and so close of the hustle of Hanoi. But the best is the staff, everyone was so helpful al the time - they gave us tips of where to eat and what to visit. And you can organise all your tours in the hotel, which great. We organise everything with Tam - she was amazing and help us all the time, even by message just to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. Best staff ☺️

The breakfast on the top floor of the hotel is excellent, and staffed by very helpful people who go out of their way to assist. The room was very spacious (not all for them are, so it might be worth checking before you you settle in). The location ca't be beat. The historic Old Quarter is really the best place in Hanoi to locate yourself. ***Special mention for Kim, the young woman at the front desk who really made our comfort her priority. Great place to stay in Hanoi's old quarter which seems to has been renovated just recently.. Room was nice and spacious incl all amenities. Staff was very kind and caring and they'd go above and beyond for customers satisfaction. One could see that COVID hit the Vietnamese tourism industry hard and now there's big competition. Anyway, can recommend the hotel unconditionally and wish them and their staff the best of luck. PS: Breakfast is a plus (Continental and Asian breakfast)

The rooms are beautiful and look exactly like the pictures. Very clean and spacious. The breakfast buffet has quite a number of options and the food is fresh.
The San Grand Hotel is perfectly located in the heart of the Old Quarter, which makes it a great starting point for exploring the city. Our room was clean and cozy and had everything we needed. The people are very friendly and always ready to answer any of your questions, to book a tour for you or to have some nice casual chat. Every morning, you will get a rich breakfast buffet of both Vietnamese and Western food. We will come back if we ever will be back in Hanoi!
The location was brilliant (very close to the Old Quarter gate), the rooms were clean, nicely furnished and the beds were very comfy.
The best thing about our stay however, was Tien, the owner. He goes above and beyond for his guests, and is just a bundle of warmth and joy. He helped us book our bus for the following day and even upgraded our room for the night!

It was our first time in Vietnam and they were so informative about all of the places to go, food to try, and even organised fabulous day trips for us. Beautiful 5 star hotel. Everything was super easy with very kind staff, especially Robbie who was super friendly and always available to answer any queries and also checked in on our stay. The facilities were great with two stand out pools and a rooftop bar. The room was clean and on a high floor with an extremely comfortable bed. Great way to end our stay in Hanoi, away from the busy Old Quarter. Highly recommend!
A decent hotel in a great location in the Old Quarter. A "suite with balcony" is an equivalent to the regular-sized hotel room and it was all we needed as a base to explore Hanoi. Most of the attractions are within walking distance. Staff is very nice, they've let us keep our bags there for 24+ hours as we had the Ha Long Bay trip booked the next day.
The best part of the hotel is the Staff Jenny and Jimmy need more than 5 stars for their hospitality.
The breakfast staff were very attentive as well and always catered to our requirements.
