I resisted going to Cat Ba for many years for various reasons and now I regret it. The island is very beautiful, easy to get around and seems to have less rubbish than Phu Quoc (not to mention it is considerably cheaper). There are many tourist facilities and the service is great. I would definitely come back to Cat Ba.

Beautiful island! Would recommend 3 full days here. We had one day renting a scooter and going to the national park (1h30 hike) and 2 caves near the National Park. Then we went on the night boat trip with kayaking & swimming to see the bioluminescence plankton. Then the next day we went on the Lan Ha Bay & Halong Bay boat trip with kayaking. Both trips were booked with Cat Ba Local who we'd highly recommend! Then the third day we walked around town to see the markets and went to the 3 beaches. Then hired a tandem bike in town in the evening! Lovely island so allow time to relax and enjoy it. It was very easy to get around and book any trips the day before via tour agencies or hotels.

It is convenient to travel to Cat Ba from Hanoi city, only 3 hours travelling. You can enjoy both sea and forest at the same trip in Cat Ba island. Food is the most I like in Cat Ba, especially sea food and ice cream.

There is no beach in the bay. You have to travel further afield. It would be good to know when your chosen hotel/accommodation is on a steep hill.
Cat Ba has a great little market, a few good restaurants, good foot massage and friendly folks

Cat Ba is a nice spot to just chill. There is good accommodation around and lots of eating place to choose from. You can also spend 8 hours cruising on the bay if you wish with lunch included. The cruise was very enjoyable. Oasis restaurant on the main street is a great place to eat, drink or have a cup of coffee. The food is great there. They have a pool table there and it's free to play. If you want to go to the beach, it's near the Flamingo Resort which is a 20 minutes walk to the left of the main road if you're facing the bay.

We stayed in a Homestay 10Km outside Cat Ba and just went in to the town for some shopping and for the boat trip. Would recommend staying here rather than Halong Bay--much less crowded and opportunities for other activities eg trekking.
Paradise Hotel is a symphony of scenic beauty in Cat Ba Island. The panoramic views of Lan Ha Bay from the 17th-floor swimming pool and bar are simply breathtaking. This hostel was perfect for our stay on Cat Ba Island. The room was spacious and comfortable. It had A/C and a mini fridge. The location was perfect as it was quiet but a short walk to the main square & beach. The staff were friendly and the restaurant was affordable and great food/drinks. They also provide tours, transport, motorbike rental and laundry, we did the day tour and it was great fun from a good value and rented a motorbike which was of good quality and cheap. They also have a water refill station which saved us money.
My stay at Cat Ba Green was incredibly pleasant, the owner of the hotel is a super nice couple, they went beyond my expectations to make my stay enjoyable, helped me to book Ha Long Bay tour at a good price and gave me so many fruits and free water. The room was super clean, no bugs or mosquitoes were noticed, and it was quiet too! The location is quite central, about two minutes to the Main Street, but at the same time it’s not crowded. I really enjoyed staying there and would recommend this hotel to anyone!
Everything! The host family were all very accomodating and it has a family feel to it. Food options are good. The location is 15min scooter ride from Cat Ba town, which we found to be the perfect part of Cat Ba island. Quiet, yet close to everything you need. Great value for money and the brand new pool is lovely. Across the road is a restaurant/bar that we recommend “Binh’s Motorcycles”. There are many beaches to go to as well. Our room was tidy, spacious and clean. Great a/c.
The staff at Blue Lagoon were incredibly kind and accommodating and really the highlight of our stay. The little coffee shop/ breakfast area has a wonderful chill vibe not to mention delicious banana crepes and fantastic coffee.
While it is a long (ish) walk to the main area of town, We rented scooters for a day and were able to explore the island and easily get around.
We had a great stay and would recommend this property!
The location was really good, central of Cat Ba Town. Easy to reach from Hai Phong.
Close to the Hostel are many good food options and small grocery shops available.
The breakfast is a Bahn Mi and Coffee/ Tea at the little food stand in front of it with vegetarian options as well (Egg/ vegetarian Bahn Mi).
They offer Bus tours and Tours through the Bay/ Island, which are very good.

This is a stunning location at the end of Cat Ba island with an absolutely perfect little beach on its doorstep, with the small town of Cat Ba only 10 mins walk away. It is a beautiful building with a spectacular entrance moving through into its superiors bar and restaurant areas. Swimmings pools to suit all with the roof top pool spa etc having incredible views. Bedrooms were extremely comfortable too.
Cat Ba Oasis Bungalows was exactly what we needed for our time in CatBa. Located right near the beach, there was good access to activities, food, drink, etc. Rooms were clean and had good A/C. Check-In / Out was easy. The hotel held our bags for us and helped us book a taxi to do some hiking. Breakfast had reasonable options.
The pool was completely empty at night, very nice area to hang out.

Thang is an amazing host. He helped us book transport to and from the island, and helped us with anything we needed before and after the stay. The place itself is amazing. You can explore the area on paddle boards or small boat. Activities like Deep Water Solo will pick you up directly from the home stay. I don't think you could book a more interesting home stay on Cat Ba than this.
A cozy, comfortable, spacious rooms, and a very well-located boutique family-run hotel in the heart of Cat Ba island, a short walk away from the center. We loved our stay here and the owners of the property were very friendly and helpful all along. Plus this came on a budget so couldn't complain about anything. If you are on a budget and need a comfy place to stay, go for it!
It is the best accomodation you can find here. Just immagine, you are on the island which is uninhabited. There is a cozy beach on the other side of the island and the trek there is very pleasant. The hotel gives you a possibility to use kayaks and sups for free. The restaurant is very good and even better, no need to go to Cat Ba. Jack is so helpful!
When you visit Cat Ba you would be foolish to stay anywhere else than in this place. Everything Was absolutely amazing. We felt like Family and were treated like that. Its just a few meters away from the street but so quiet that you feel like in the middle of the jungle. The hosts are the sweetest couple you will find on the Island. Don't hesitate!
