The local markets are awesome for religious shopping, dry fruits, herbs and mouth watering vegetarian dishes/chaats etc. Katra is all about Mata Vaishnodevi and the devine energy can be felt everywhere. It's an amazing and surreal experience to be in Katra and visit the Shrine of Mata Vashnidevi. Visit to Katra is recommended with family and friends!

Beautiful place but crowded all year round due to its popularity. Wonderful for people who are devotee of mother vaishnavdevi. Very well connected with train services. However be careful of the local beggers. They are a big nuisance in the town.

The long way up to the cave is not that easy but part of the the pelgrimage and memorable. I did start early in the morning at 6am. It was a very quiet and nice walk and no waiting line to enter the cave. When you start later it will be very busy on the road.
Registration office at main market to get your permit is open from 5 am to 10 pm. From there it is 2 km walk to the gate to start your pelgrimage. It is open 24 hours a day.
Up and down the mountain is about 24 km in total. There are lots of restaurants, toilets etc. On the way. You also can go on horse our stretcher with fixed prices.
As a foreigner i needed to show my passport but I was allowed to go.

It is small town and most of folks who go there are religious .when I went there whole market road was dug up to lay down tiles.not vert pleasant with seweage on road.

Katra is a small town from where you start the Vaishno Devi pilgrimage. There are a couple of temples nearby and it is a quiet location. One should always book a train for Katra station only if planning for Vaishno devi. The other two stations are very far from Katra. The main market is good. Hotels are cheap and you won't find many options for food as it's a vegetarian city and the cuisine options are limited.
While the hotel is not as centrally located as many in Katra, but the stay and services had been comfortable. They ensure we don't have any problems during our stay and offered to provide conveyance at a nominal charge, which they later removed from the bill. They even provided salt for compression after the yatra, which was such a kind gesture on their part.
I would highly recommend them just for the hospitality that they extended to us. We are beyond grateful and would definitely book the property again.
Galaxy refused my check in claiming they have no information or payment. The guy at the reception looked clueless and connected me to someone else on the phone who climed he manages bookings. The person on the phone was extremely rude and refused to let us in. Here i was stranded with 3 senior citizens causing inconvenience and major embarrassment. I had to then go hotel hunting and found a different one at cheaper rate. Never would recommend this hotel in Katra.

Banganga is 10-15mins away. The hotel guys also do provide vehicle to there in just 100 rupees.
The food is also good and at a very nominal rate, not like hotels that charges double for everything.

As a middle-class family on a budget, we were initially hesitant about staying at Hotel Katra Grand. However, we were pleasantly surprised by the affordable rates and the exceptional value for money. The hotel's commitment to providing comfortable and enjoyable accommodations at reasonable prices makes it an excellent choice for families of all socioeconomic backgrounds.

Room was good but due to electricity issues in Katra there wa sno Hot water for bath. Its was extreme cold on the day we visited but we didnt get hot water- Although hotel staff gave us hot water bucket itwas not enough as its was the coldest day with rain and strong winds.

Everything. Quiet and comfortable place. The view from the homestay which attracted me more as we could see the Adhkuwari Temple and Yatra Marg from the homestay itself. Mr. Jagdish was very helpful from the time we arrived in Katra. Highly recommended place to homestay in Katra and I would say better than any hotel around.
The hotel staff were cordial and helpful in providing all information regarding the yatra. There were some issue with the geyser which was promptly fixed. A very good experience and would recommend to family and friends. The view of the Trikut hills was amazing.
