FAQs about hotels in Newcastle upon Tyne

The Spirit of the North

A former Industrial Revolution hub, Newcastle has reinvented itself into a vibrant, forward-thinking city. Although no longer brewed here, Newcastle Brown Ale, or Newkie Brown, is synonymous with the city, so it’s no surprise that the nightlife is fantastic.

From the O2 Academy to the Sage Music Centre, the Newcastle music venues are among the best in England. The city also has a thriving arts scene, including The Biscuit Factory – Britain’s largest original art store.

Equally as good is the Newcastle shopping. The Central Arcade is in an attractive Victorian building, and across the River Tyne in Gateshead is the Metro Centre, Europe’s largest shopping and leisure complex. Indeed, these 2 cities have a healthy rivalry that plays out in sport, architecture and, sometimes, the bizarre.

Gateshead boasts the Angel of The North, a huge statue that is already its most recognised (and controversial) symbol. While in Newcastle the Vampire Rabbit sits above a door near St Nicholas’ Cathedral. Newcastle United Football Club has the most prestigious record, but Gateshead Stadium has seen many a star compete at its international athletics meets.

To the west of the city are some remains of Hadrian’s Wall and further north is Newcastle Airport. See Booking.com for a range of accommodation all over this happening city.

A wonderfully diverse city with many cultural attractions, generally within walking distance. A super Metro system easily can transport you to the outer reaches of the city and beyond. Entertainment and dining to suit all tastes is readily available to all and all at reasonable prices. Try the Thai restaurant on Mosely Street and indeed Zizzis on Grey Street for excellent food. Much to see on the riverside including the famous bridges and more eateries and watering holes. A special feature of Newcastle is the warmth and welcome you will receive from the local people

    Beautiful historic buildings.

Beautiful historic buildings. Great selection of excellent restaurants. The Newcastle Castle is one of the best if not the best I have been in. So well maintained with lots of information and lots of interesting nooks and crannies to explore... great for kids .. fantastic views over Newcastle when you get to the top. Their castle museum was very good and informative too. Several iconic bridges to walk across and admire. Lovely Quayside area to walk along. Unfortunately the Sunday market along there was being dismantled the day we went as it was too windy, but before it was closed there were lots of street foods stalls. Also a beautiful Cathedral. Added bonus is you can walk to all the interesting places. The Biscuit factory gallery and the Baltic contemporary art galleries were also amazing. Both have nice cafes. Highly recommend going there for a long weekend. Luckily we had the added bonus of 2 out of the 3 days were sunny (in late October).

We are from the North East but now live in Leeds so coming to Newcastle is like coming home. The North East is really the friendliest place there is, and we know that as we have lived in London, North Yorkshire, Harrogate and now Leeds. There’s so much to see and do up here. It’s the best!!!.

The city centre location is perfect beside the train station and top notch restaurants. The staff are so helpful, friendly and calm. We booked a family room, while it was compact, it had a great design and used every inch of space well. We stayed in room 519 which had the most excellent view of Newcastle. The room and beds were very comfortable and spotless. The shower was compact but had loads of hot water and good pressure. The breakfast was casual and very tasty. In short, the perfect hotel for a city break in Newcastle.

An hotel with the adjoining Three Mile complex of restaurants and pub. Location near Metro Regent Centre and busy bus routes on the former Great North Road. Car not necessary - easy to get into and out of Newcastle and cover most of the regional attractions using buses, Metro and trains. Excellent welcome and freely offered advice. Comfortable rooms, great breakfast and many good restaurants nearby including the on-site Dough House. Ptice for accommodation far lower than city centre chain hotels.
