The village doesn't have a cafe or any shops, but the Royal oak is a lovely pub/hotel and the food there is excellent. Breakfast and dinner was served by wonderful staff and was the best food we have had in years.

Very quaint pretty town with lots of unusual shops, coffee shops and pubs. Offers easy access to other towns and villages and even the East Coast. However with being so popular, parking can be a bit of an issue. Can recommend The Feathers for Sunday lunch but be aware you need to book well in advance.

Hemsley is a fantastic little market town in the Yorkshire Moors, and not far from the Yorkshire Coast, it has lots to offer including, historical sites, great walks and excellent views, a variety of shops in the square, quite a few restaurants and eateries, local bakers, butchers, artists and a lovely walled garden with a superb ‘value for money’ cafe.
It is surrounded by lots of other small picturesque villages just a short drive away.
Well worth a visit.

Helmsley is a lovely little market town which benefits from a number of independent traders. Make sure to leave enough time to take advantage of this. Some delightful venacular architecture around the town just has to be studied. Don't rush around - take it at your leisure.

This is a lovely market town with individual shops, and friendly staff. We also did a fabulous walk along the Cleveland Way to Rievaulx Abbey and back.
There is a diverse choice of restaurants in the square, and several pubs/hotels. We had fabulous food at The Feathers Hotel where we stayed, and Bantams Restaurant.

A lovely town with great access to many places including Thirsk and Byland Abbey, not too far to coast and Yorkshire Moors.
A busy market town with great places to eat day and night.
We ate at La Trattoria in the market Square and in The Black Swan the 2nd night. Porters coffee shop, great atmosphere and super scones
Helmsley very easy to get to and easy to get around.
Loved the feel and decor of the hotel, i used to live in Helmsley so we came back for one night for our Wedding Anniversary, The Black Swan was always a favourite of mine for drinks of a weekend so i’ve never spent the night there before. The atmosphere was lovely, and for a sunday evening it was busy. The character of the hotel is lovely and the decor in the room was lovely also. We didn’t eat our evening meal here as we already had somewhere booked so we can’t comment on that.
The location within a five minute walk of Helmsley market place was excellent. The room furnishings were in real wood rather than the MDF type found in most hotels and matched the mid 19th century building which was very well presented. The breakfasts had a varied menu, we tried a different one each day and all three were excellent.
Great atmosphere within a unique hotel.
The guest rooms were well crafted and quite spacious. The Weathervane restaurant served top quality food and great service. The swimming pool was very good and inviting.
All the staff were professional, friendly and helpful.
Helmsley is beautiful and the hotel is perfectly located in the centre. The staff were all exceptional. The room was compact but clean and comfortable. Although the hotel car park was full, parking overnight on the street nearby was free and no problem.
Monia was a fantastic host. Made me feel very welcome during my stay. The room was very comfortable and the b&b was conveniently located in Helmsley Town. Food was delicious and coffee was great. Would definitely stay again when in Helmsley.
