The Golden Fleece Hotel, Thirsk, North Yorkshire, hotel in Thirsk

Situated between the Yorkshire Moors and Yorkshire Dales National Parks, this hotel is listed as one of England's oldest coaching inns and overlooks the cobbled market place in Thirsk.

Arrived late. The staff were all fantastic and cannot fault them. Bar looked tempting but I was pretty wacked out so went straight to bed. The bed was good and slept really well. I didn't stay for Breakfast, but did grab an coffee and went on my way. From what I saw the breaky did look (and smell) great. Would stay again, but would want to be in the main house and not the Mews, Location A1.

Good value for the price paid. Was very clean room and some great views. Leslie was nice at the reception and gave me the code for the WiFi and the code to get into the building. Its was only a one night stay so did not get to have breakfast or use any other facility.

Thirsk is a smaller, friendly town in North Yorkshire. It has a number of independent shops and other facilities including a cinema . There are a number of cafes and hotels . We ate in the Italian Bianca which was excellent. Lots of food ! There is a market on but not sure what days .

Some interesting shops, Herriots was good value for money and the walks around the town were lovely although there was snow on the ground. Good entertainment in the Golden Fleece watching the staff cock up all the orders for meals and drinks! Beware of the unpleasant traffic warden who comes all the way from Scarborough so has to earn his corn and also the pieman opposite Neros which we happen to cross swords with.Staff in Herons and the Coop were exceptionally helpful.

Thirsk is a lovely place to visit.

Thirsk is a lovely place to visit. There are many cosy teashops (Upstairs, Downstairs was our preferred choice with a great selection of snacks, main meals (including daily specials) and cakes! A great Italian restaurant (Bianco), which I can highly recommend - but do book - we booked for a Wednesday evening and it was very busy! There is also a good selection of bakeries for yummy cakes, cookies and breads! Lots of charity shops for a few bargains, Co-Op, Boots & WH Smith. There is also a large Tesco supermarket just out of the town. A visit to Thirsk wouldn't be complete without a visit to The World of James Herriot - it was brilliant! There is also a lot of parking, both short and long stay. All in all a great time was had by us, and I wouldn't hesitate in returning to Thirsk again!

There were lots of local shops, cafes and a local market at the weekend. The old town centre was very quaint. It wasn't too busy or too quiet. There is a locally run cinema. It is less than 20mins on the train to York. The locals are friendly.

A lovely little town that has shops, a little market and nice cafe’s. You can see where James Herriot lived and worked and everything is in walking distance from where you park. There is plenty of parking and it’s free for an hour. It is a must see little town.

The hotel, although about one and a half miles out of Thirsk, is ideally situated for visiting many of the most interesting sights of this part of Yorkshire. The hotel has ample parking space and the rooms are comfortable, clean and warm. The restaurant is excellent and we had two first class evening meals there. The breakfast was also first class. Without exception, all the staff we met were cheerful and very helpful. The price paid was very good value. We would be happy to stay here again

Fantastic food in the restaurant, beautiful rooms, exceptionally friendly, helpful staff. I was a bit concerned when I was told that breakfast on the Friday did not start until 8am as I thought this was a bit late for a week day and I wanted to leave the hotel quite early. However, I spoke to a gentleman at reception to ask if there was any way I could get something to eat a little earlier and he was so helpful, saying I could come down for breakfast at 7.30 which suited me perfectly.

The accommodation matched our needs and in some respects exceeded our expectations. The location is good in terms access to Thirsk and the main arterial routes in the area. The accommodation was of a high standard, comfortable and very clean. The breakfast offering in terms of quantity and quality of presentation will be fondly remembered. As will the friendliness and commitment of the owners Andrea and Darren to making our stay enjoyable

Maybe the best B and B I've stayed in. Located just down the road from Thirsk race course where I was going. Easy to find on main road but no traffic noise in room. My room was well appointed and the other rooms were well decorated (A bit of Style) The full Yorkshire breakfast was excellent. Amanda the hoist was very helpful for local knowledge. It was so good I extended my stay.

Alex was top notch as a host. Excellent location for visiting the north moors as well as the Yorkshire dales. Everybody was friendly that we met at the Kings Arms we ended up talking to locals as well as residents. I want to go again as we only scratched at seeing the local scenery. We absolutely loved the North Yorkshire Moors and wondered why we had never been before.

Myself and my two daughters (9 and 12) Had a fabulous stay. The cottage was perfect and the animals on the farm were an extra special bonus. The owners were great and allowed us all to have cuddles with the lambs. The cottage was immaculate and had absolutely everything you would need . Lovely walk into thirsk town centre from this location.

The cottage was cosy, well appointed and freshly decorated to a high standard. Plentiful pots & pans, crockery and cutlery. The garden was pretty with a comfortable covered seating area that wasn't overlooked by neighbours; we were even visited by a very cute hedgehog! The town square is only a couple of minutes walk away.

This was an excellent location to serve as our base for exploring North Yorkshire. The cottage is very cozy and we enjoyed the view of the horses and donkeys from our window. As Americans, we really missed having a coffee maker--a cheap pour-over would be a nice addition to the kitchen equipment.
