The lodge really has the wow factor. We stayed here for two nights - I stayed the night before my wedding and I couldn’t wish for better. The decor and facilities are incredible and the views from each window are dreamy. I was greeted from a member of staff who showed me around, was very friendly. The group are already talking about when to book again. Thanks for a very special stay, we would recommend you to anyone.

Rose & Crown, hotel in Edmondbyers

Set in Slaley, 32 km from Beamish Museum, Rose & Crown offers accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a restaurant and a bar.

The rooms were nice enough but we were staying here to attend a wedding at Slaley Hall, I explained this to someone on the telephone (when it was eventually answered) a week before we arrived that we needed to book in at 11am but when we got there it was all locked up. We were also told we could sort breakfast on the day but again no staff were available at the time. We managed to get some breakfast with limited facilities and paid for what we had when a member of staff turned up to collect the money for the overnight stay.

There was very little to like!

There was very little to like! The photographs on the website are misleadingly flattering . Certainly the room we were in was basic at best. It was clean but uncomfortable. Staff were helpful enough and tried to show how the TV worked and put heating on. Carpets on stairs were dirty and torn. Doors were dirty. It seemed odd to stay in a licensed premises with no one living in the pub . I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Cosy cottage with everything you could need for a few nights away. Comfy beds in good sized rooms. Great shower and lots of hot water! Set in lovely grounds next to a small ambling river who has a rarely inhabitant...Mr Otter. He surprised the owner by making an appearance on the morning we left! Great stay in beautiful surroundings.

Blanchand only about four miles away a conservation village with a lot of history and wonderful old school house where you can stop and have a bite to eat, food delicious. would highly recommend Edmondbuyers as a place to stay, lots of interesting locations nearby to explore.

The location means a variety of things to see within a very short distance. There are several easy to follow footpaths or more hilly trails for the more adventurous. The Derwent reservoir is within walking distance and offers excellent opportunities for birdwatching and fishing. There are stunning views whichever way you decide to travel and the area is natural and unspoilt. Even the sheep seem more chilled than usual which can be interesting if you are driving. The two pubs provide a variety of choice but quality in both. the village is small but has its own history and traditions to explore.
