We were very impressed by the room itself, there was plentiful tea/coffee available, the hand wash, shower gel, shampoo smelled fresh and the bed was comfortable. I enjoyed that there was Sky Sport available (i was able to watch the cricket).

At check-in I was too early (2pm) and my room not ready. I asked if a taxi to the centre of town could later be ordered for me. I was told they would do this and the cost would be £5 - £6.
Later an asked a different receptionist if she could order me a taxi; she said “no, because it was a race day and they didn’t order taxis for guests on race days.”! She offered no apology and appeared as if she could not be bothered. She gave me a number to call, which I did while stood in front of her and the taxi came in 5 minutes; it cost £9. Was she just too lazy or was this company policy not to help guests?
When later I checked in I was given a key card which did not work. Long walk back to reception and given, with no apology, another card - this also did not work, so back to reception. No apology. The third card worked.
I had made two simple special room requests when booking and this was acknowledged by an email from the hotel. Both requests were then totally ignored by hotel staff and when queried at reception again no apology given and a ‘take it or leave it, we are full', attitude.
The whole atmosphere of the reception staff at this hotel appeared to be one of begrudgingly having to serve guests.
Fair to say my; room was much as expected. Lunch at the restaurant was good and service likewise.
Breakfast was poor. Scrambled eggs at 7am on Sunday had clearly been prepared long before and had dried out. Mushrooms were literally black and dried out.
That’s what I received in return for £200 for one night at the Double Tree in Chester. Never again can I trust this hotel chain.
Recently my wife and I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Glasgow where the reception staff were all excellent and the breakfast we gave 10/10. Hilton could and should learn from them.

Featuring half-timbered buildings, almost complete city walls and a wealth of Roman heritage, beautiful Chester sits by the border with Wales.
The southernmost gate of the walls overlooks the River Dee, and the road leading north is one of 4 in the city to follow the original Roman roads. To the east, the Roman Gardens include a reconstructed underfloor heating system.
Nearby Grosvenor Park has remains of a stone Roman amphitheatre, thought to have been built on the world’s largest wooden amphitheatre at the time. Over the river in the suburb of Handbridge is a 2nd-century shrine to Minerva, and an informative display in the Grosvenor Museum provides the background to all this heritage.
In the west is Chester Racecourse and nearby are the medieval castle remains. More medieval buildings line the cobbled city centre streets. Some of these are The Rows, black-and-white timbered buildings housing 2 levels of shops. Other shopping options are the indoor market by the cathedral, and the Cheshire Oaks Outlet Village in Ellesmere Port to the north. The road out there passes Chester Zoo, one of the UK’s best zoos.
Booking.com’s range of Chester accommodation includes hotels with swimming pools, guest houses by the train station and B&Bs with parking near Chester Airport.

Chester is a beautiful and ancient city where Roman Legionaires, Viking raiders, and Norman invaders once walked. We especially enjoyed the Roman Amphitheatre ruins and the 1000 year old Cathedral. It is worth the trip.

Staff were warm and friendly and could not do enough
Food was amazing in the restaurant - really up there - fine dining.
Covid Impact is evident and all Health and Safety precautions are in place. We only stayed one night unfortunately but would highly recommend this property for a relaxing stay in Chester.
The name alone should be enough to create the impression of a hotel with attitude. Thankfully, this doesn't extend to the reception/hospitality staff who were unfailingly polite and helpful.
The hotel is located on the canal and is roughly five minutes walk to Chester railway station and the city centre. The terrace at the back of the hotel overlooks the canal and is great for people watching and toasting the end of the day with a sundowner or two.
Excellent facilities, very clean, easy to reach town, food great - breakfast and dinner, well stocked bar. Our room was a great size, overlooking the canal. The spa was an excellent end to a tiring day exploring the walls and city. The staff were all very helpful and friendly, especially our waiter who seemed to work every shift with a cheery greeting and chat - sorry, didn't get his name. Fantastic hotel, will return when we next visit Chester.
Amy girl on front desk unpleasant. Told me a blatant LIE that they had no more rooms to offer me, after my safe didn't work. It's a long story. The hotel is scruffy, back stair carpet stained & filthy. Old sash windows, broke, let in water & drafty. Evening menu. Meager veg non existent. Horrible experience. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY. STICK WITH PREMIER INN , least you know what you're getting & u can get a 3 course breakfast for £10 !!!!!
I chose this hotel randomly, not knowing that it was just a 7 minute walk to where I was visiting at Chester, I was really shocked! The facility is very clean and about 15-20 minutes walk to the city centre. The breakfast was amazing and I really enjoyed my stay here and the price was really affordable. They also helped with directions into North Wales. Thank you 🙏
A very nice and comfortable hotel - perfect for visiting Chester. We were able to park in their underground parking and then walk into the city centre (5 - 10 minutes away). Our room was very comfortable with a lovely view across Chester racecourse. Friendly welcome and helpful staff. An excellent breakfast.
Chester Guest House was very clean, comfortable & near lots of facilities. The breakfast was exceptional. It was self service with everything you could think of from cereal, yogurts, full English to fruit & danishes. The staff were very pleasant & helpful. Ray was a wonderful host, thank you.
Great location with very easy access to parking. Easy to drive to other parts of the area such as Conway. Fantastic restaurants and pubs a stones throw away. Chester is a great city to visit and this lodging made it easy to enjoy all it had to offer.
Excellent hotel and the food was great. Recommended and will be staying again when at Chester. Free car parking is great and lots of room. Internet was great. Bed was really comfortable. Staff really friendly and nothing to much of a problem.
Excellent location to enjoy downtown Chester. The hotel is located between the cathedral, the modern market (with handy parking) and the shops. The staff were friendly. Our room was very large with a king size bed.
The property was ideally located for access to Chester. Only a few minutes walk and we were in the city centre. As we were two couples it was great value for money as hotel rooms were over £100 each
The hotel was exceptionally clean and tidy, very good parking facilities. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Great location and Chester city centre was a ten minute walk.
The hotel was easy to find and ideally located for our visit to Chester Zoo. The staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was great with plenty of options.
