The Players Golf Club, hotel in Hawkesbury

Set in Bristol, 20 km from Royal Crescent, The Players Golf Club offers accommodation with a shared lounge, free private parking, a terrace and a bar.

It's all about the location, there's not much else to like. Breakfast was decent, but having paid £130 for what felt like a glorified shed, I wasn't expecting to pay for it.

Cross Hands Hotel by Greene King Inns, hotel in Hawkesbury

Just minutes from junction 18 of the M4, Cross Hands Hotel is a charming 14th-century posting house with a pub and restaurant, in the heart of the Gloucester countryside.

My room was fantastic. A huge, very comfy bed, with extra pillows in the wardrobe (& iron, ironing board and hairdryer). Shower room was clean and fairly recently refurbished. Breakfast - lots of choice and very good. Location was great, easy to find and plenty of parking.

Hawkesbury Upton is a nice village, centrally located for lots of tourist attractions. There are lots of nice walks in the surrounding countryside. It has a well stocked shop and 2 pubs. The Beaufort Arms is very nice, with good beer and food. The Fox Inn had recently reopened and was having teething troubles, which I hope they sort out.

Fantastic service. Everyone weeny above and beyond. I was doing a 2000 mile 20 day charity bicycle ride and picked this hotel as stopover for day 18. Everything we’d perfect and the staff event kept the kitchen I open for us as we were late in due to the terrible weather that day.

David and his wife were wonderful hosts. David made a huge roasted dinner for us. This is a great location in the middle of Hawkesbury Upton with easy access to the Cotswold Way. There’s also a convenient small grocery across the street.

Nothing. I only ever give fair reviews, but I have to honestly say that The Fox Inn at Hawkesbury Upton is the worst place I have ever stayed. Avoid at all costs!
