It is a beautiful! The family that run the guesthouse is friendly and accommodating. The property is close to the town and hiking trails. The views are lovely. I felt welcomed and very well looked after. Highly recommended!

The area is so quite and in the middle of the forest that you immediately feel relaxed and can properly enjoy a couple of days off.

Ancient town (the castle is 12 century) with wonderful restaurants, bars, peacefulness, and lots to do in its vicinity. I never had a bad meal or a bad drink at all the places I visited. The cross-country mountain biking is endless. Freiburg is only 18kms away. The significance of this for me, is the international train station, which I used for trips to Switzerland, and the Basel Mulhouse airport is only a one hour bus ride away. This airport serves most of Europe through EasyJet.
The people of Staufen are also very kind and hospitable, so much so, we now have friends there.

We loved walking around the town.
We loved walking around the town. And the ambiance at Christmas time is great! Unfortunately, as expected, everything in town was closed on the 25th and 26th. We were lucky to have made a reservation for dinner! The Krone also made some accommodations to adjust the meal to our needs (health-related). Staufen is a lovely place and people were friendly here.
Also, it is easy and inexpensive to take a train here from Freiburg (about 4 Euro/person). You change trains in Bad Krozingen and this is easy (even with luggage).

Staufen is a beautiful little town. We particularly enjoyed our lunch and cakes at Cafe Decker. Staufen is such a convenient comfortable town in which to base yourself for day visits to other areas and towns in the Black Forest.

Nice little town. Was there for business but can recommend for a short private trip also as long as you do not expect a great night life. Food and n all the restaurants are good and nothing can go wrong there.

Great location close to Freiburg, the Black Forest, Alsace region and Basel Switzerland as well the charming town of Staufen. The room was decorated lovely, with the reclaimed wood and the exposed stone. The host was friendly and helpful. We really liked the fact that they gave us a complimentary train ticket to use during our stay, which we used to take the train to Basel for the Christmas market. We definitely plan on staying here again in the summer to enjoy this wonderful region of Germany.
Of the seven hotel accommodations we stayed at our our trip to Switzerland, Germany, and France, Die Krone in Staufen, Germany was the best by far. Great location, clean, full of old-world charm, a polite and helpful staff, and even geraniums cascading off our balcony (with a great view). We would book there again and highly recommend it to others. / The dinner served in their dining room was so good we ate there every night.
es war so eine tolle Einrichtung. mit liebevollen Details und da steckt so viel Mühe im Detail. statt Hotelzimmer so eine Traumunterkunft. preislich identisch aber komfortabler. !!! wir haben uns so unglaublich wohl gefühlt. wenn wir im Sommer wieder nach Staufen gehen möchte ich diese Unterkunft wieder buchen und freuen uns drauf. !! What a delightful surprise to find this incredible hotel in such a beautiful city as Staufen! The owners were a delight to get to know. Although they (Isabelle and Dieter) both work very hard in their hotel, restaurant and vineyard, they were always friendly and helpful. And I highly recommend their wine (Hirschen Staufen) -- absolutely delicious!
Location was great. The host was nice to us when we arrived. The duvets were nice and linen on the bed seemed fresh. Hotel wasn’t accessible for a wheelchair or buggy but we were able to leave the buggy downstairs.

The staff was super nice and helpful, we arrived in the middle of the night outside of check-in hours and they saved us. Excellent breakfast, clean room, comfy bed. Very nice family hotel, we'll gladly come back.
The breakfast was very good, but the hotel restaurant dinner was amazing! The gentleman and two ladies who were our hosts were so friendly and helpful.
