This was a real find. The owners made us extremely welcome even helping to take our luggage upstairs. Its a very relaxed atmosphere and dinner was particularly good being able to take some time over it without being rushed. Food was delicious and plenty of it. Natasha & Colin have clearly worked really hard to restore this lovely old building to bring to the superb standard it is now. It is an ideal overnight or short stay B&B and we loved it. We hope to go back when we are next down that way.

If you like the countryside and walking then this is a great place to come. Dartmoor is a beautiful place and the river here at South Zeal adds to the charm. We only had one nights stay but managed a three hour walk and a trip to the Finch Foundry which was most interesting. Furthermore, there was a Quaker cemetery and nice garden at this National Trust property. We wanted to visit the nearby market town of Chagford but didn't get time, a great excuse to come to this neck of the woods again. We accidentally found Fernworthy reservoir which was a sight worth seeing.

There are numerous walks in the area and as keen walkers we loved doing those. Also the village itself is very interesting. Some of the buildings have great history.
We have relatives there so it was nice to visit them. Dartmoor is easily accessible from South Zeal too so if you’re interested in walking there is plenty to do.
It’s also not far from Okehampton and a little bit further to Exeter.
a beautifully maintained historic inn in a lovely village. we were warmly welcomed and stayed in a very comfortable well appointed room. the hotel bar and restaurant were superb. we stayed two nights and had all our meals in the hotel. breakfast were superb freshly prepared with plenty of choice. we had two dinners - one in the restaurant the second in the bar. menu is varied and interesting. all the dishes were nicely presented. we loved our two day stay and can’t wIt to go back.
My husband and I spent two nights in this wonderful historic building. Lyn and Simon are the perfect hosts, they both went out of their way to make our stay perfect. We ate in the hotel both evenings and the food was excellent, the breakfast was also very tasty. All of the staff were extremely pleasant and welcoming. A fantastic stay - we will definitely be returning, thank you!
A lovely establishment in a pleasant and well kept village.
Hotel expectations exceeded in every area, from cleanliness and welcoming staff, to the amenities (room & public areas) and superb food. Ample breakfast choices and beautifully served as was dinner on 2 evenings of our stay.
We loved the location, which meant we could go for a lovely walk straight from the hotel. The old, historical building was very interesting and our room beautiful. The food and service in the restaurant for dinner were excellent - eating in the Snug by the roaring fire was lovely.
Bed was very comfortable and breakfasts were good. The location is very quiet at night. It is also awe-inspiring to stay in a hotel with such a rich history.
The meal we had in the restaurant during our stay was superb quality.
The building was unique and full of charm and character. It was a privilege and pleasure to stay in an hotel with so much history. The proprietors were attentive and friendly which enhanced the stay. We will be returning soon.
Lovely hotel, wonderful staff, great food, well stocked bar. Breakfast pre-ordered the night before so cooked fresh. 5 round walks onto Dartmoor from the hotel, all printed out.
We loved the history of the building and the village of South Zeals. We also liked the fact that it’s location in a partially unknown area of Devon made it less touristy.
The location was amazing - small village on the edge of Dartmoor. The hotel had an amazing history. The hosts were very welcoming food excellent - good value for money.
The hotel was steeped in history and well cared for. The staff were pleasant and helpful. The bedroom was spacious and very comfortable and also steeped in history.
Oxenham Arms Hotel is so unique & we felt we could have stayed longer if time permitted. Very friendly staff, nothing was too hard. Excellent menu & wine list!
