Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

New ZealandOur room had no curtains and it got light at 4am but that wasn’t a problem in my friends room. The staff didn’t really interact with us at all
The three onsens were great, so fun just having a quick spa whenever you felt like it day or night! Very flexible with food preferences/dietary requirements they are able to cater to anyone Yudanaka town was pretty quiet in spring, not much going on but very relaxing nonetheless The rooms were very clean and so spacious The scenery around this part of Japan is way more beautiful than I had expected Easy to get here - one 45 min train from nagano station

FranceRooms were really spacious and you have access to private onsen baths. We had dinner there (which needs to be reserved beforehand), which was truly amazing, we highly recommend having the meal along with the room!

United KingdomIt's a little run down, like some of the carpets and furniture are quite old, and sometimes there was a slightly strange smell (not in the rooms though, just in the shared areas).
Nice little hotel, they have three onsen, one is an outdoor one which is just beautiful. They feed you breakfast and dinner in a private room and were really considerate about dietary requirements so could make lovely vegetarian food for me. convenient area too, lots of nice cafes nearby.

United KingdomThe futon beds were a bit hard for us, but not that big of a deal. We expected this with a traditional ryokan.
Traditional ryokan with very rustic feel, exactly what we wanted. Location is right by the station which is super convenient, and there is a Lawson and 7-11 within 3-min walk. There is a private onsen which you can go to for free without paying extra! You just go in and lock the door and it’s yours for however long you want. They provided free tea and cookies in our room daily. One of the owners was kind enough to drive us to the Snow Monkey park, which we appreciated a lot !!

United StatesThin walls, quite noisy, we could hear people talking in the next room and in the hallway. Outside noise early in the morning. Futon beds could have been more comfy, another pillow would have helped
Amazing staff, even gave us a ride to the monkey onsen and allowed baggage storage after checkout so we could see the monkeys easily. The private onsen was lovely Vegan meals were amazing! Great location, 5min walk from the station Room was quite large, toilet was very fancy

United StatesI am a big fellow, and the beds were a little too thin for me. If you are better in shape, the beds will be fine. If you are out of shape like me, the beds may not work for you.
This location was right near the train station. And had beautiful hot spring baths. Wife and I also opted for the traditional dinner. It was about 50 usd cash only but it was amazing and 100% worth it.

United StatesThis little ryokan is exceptional. Cozy, clean rooms, lovely bath facilities, and wonderful owners. It’s just a short walk from Yudanaka Station. If I come back to ski or see the snow monkeys, I would definitely stay here again.

AustraliaWe stayed here for one night and it was a wonderful experience! This traditional Ryokan has three private onsens and a public one. They provide you with a yukata and an obi, plus a wash towel and drying towel for your time in the onsen. I liked the communal feel to the place, and just a warning that the only showers available are those in the onsen rooms. The highlight for me was the breakfast served the next morning. At check in the staff confirm any dietaries, so my partner and I experienced a private, traditional (vegan) Japanese breakfast - and it was incredible! The gentleman (who may run the place) then asked if we would like a lift to the snow monkeys, which we accepted gratefully.

JapanA wonderful ryokan experience where every single detail is taken care of, it really looks like an animal crossing house where every piece belongs to a well thought vintage set ( in a good way, definitely) the family attending the business is very kind and the ofuros, while not the biggest, are perfect for a cozy feeling in the mountains

United StatesThe owners were so accommodating and nice. I only wish I had ordered the breakfast and dinner experience. My loss. The opportunity to spend a couple nights in such a special place was so memorable. They also volunteered to drive me to Snow Monkey Park and the Grandfather insisted on blustery snow morning to drive me to very short way to train station and even offers to help me get train ticket if needed. Couldn’t ask for nicer people. Only wish I had more time.. Quite too. Can’t say enough. You won’t be disappointed, but order food at. Reservation or go to local Micasa Japanese neighborhood restaurant. Not fancy but delicious and relaxing. Get the local Shiga Kogen Porter with whatever you have and enjoy❣️👍

IrelandIt was not a problem for us but be aware that the only showers available are the ones in the onsens. So no private showers. But I still highly recommend it.
Old traditional rooms are big and look very good. Futons on tatami. Great room sizes. Had our own toilet and sink but no shower. Japanese breakfast was great, good food in small portions and looked beautiful, and very affordable. Outdoors Onsen was spectacular and justifies the stay just on its own. It is 5 minutes walk from train station. We drove in rental car and there is free parking in front of property. 15 minutes drive to Snow Monkey Park.
