Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaFirst, this is an incredibly impressive location. A beautiful home with an incredible view of Mt Fuji. We booked only one night, with the Fuji room, but wish we had stayed longer and will come back next time we are in Japan. What a special place - we loved the tatami mats, the green tea served, the cleanliness of the inn and of course the senso/onsen. The host was genuine, helpful, kind and so, so sweet. This seemed like such an authentic experience for two people who had never been to Japan before, and I can’t recommend it highly enough. Truly a highlight for our trip.

FranceAmazing host, really kind. She gave us plenty of advice to visit the area or where to eat. Our traditional Japanese room was big, quiet, clean and nice with comfy futons. The bathroom was really beautiful and enjoyable. Thank you for this lovely and peaceful stay, it was the best of our trip in Japan

United KingdomThere were very precise rules on bathroom timing which were helpful as facilities were shared but it was a bit restrictive. To take a shower in the morning required a few and pre-booking. Bathtimes at night were generous pre-booked slots however.
The host was amazing. So enthusiastic, friendly and keen to make our stay memorable. The rooms were traditional Japanese rooms as was the house which was a great experience. The ability to hire bikes on site made our visit and we cycled everywhere around the lake.

United KingdomThe host was so welcoming and helpful. When we arrived, she helped us book a very early taxi for the following morning--even calling two companies to compare prices. We rented bikes for a very reasonable price to cycle around the lake. She also recommended a delicious traditional restaurant for dinner. The location is superb, quietly nestled behind the main street and with a stunning view of Mt Fuji. The accommodation was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. And the bath is just amazing. Highly recommend!

AustraliaTook a bit to get there via train & bus from Tokyo. We walked everywhere, shops & food about 10min walk away.
It felt like a traditional home stay. The room was spacious & comfortable (even sleeping on the traditional Japanese beds on the floor). The bath was lovely. A relaxing stay.

GermanyThe host family was extremely kind and helpful. After coming from Mt. Fuji they prepared us directly the onsen and the day after (due to a typhoon warning) they even accompanied us to nearby bus terminal. Thanks for the really great stay!

SingaporeShower time in the private onsen has to be booked. If you want to shower in the morning, there’s an additional charge of 500 yen. Toilet and sinks are communal for your washing up in the morning, though we didn’t run into anyone during our stay.
Quiet little ryokan; clean and cozy! It’s pretty near restaurants, convenient stores and the lake if you’re driving.

Singaporethis is a home, so the walls are a little thin. we had neighbours in the next room who decided to chat rather loudly till 1+am and disturbed my rest as i was a little sensitive. no impact on my spouse who had headphones on.
we like that it is off the road location and therefore it was quiet. the futon were very comfortable and there were clear instructions to lay it on. host was very nice and it was a pleasant stay.

SwedenThe beds were very hard.
The lady who ran it was super nice, and she made our stay more enjoyable. The public chat was also really nice, and I liked that you reserved the bath for your group, so you don't have to share with strangers.

Hong KongIt is a bit difficult to get to after getting off the bus from Tokyo with all the luggage. Understand that every room has designated bath time, but it would be nicer if we could have a bit longer bath time to enjoy especially when it's cold.
The host is very friendly and helpful. She arranged the room with a Mt. Fuji view for us and gave us all the tips about the area. Rental bicycles are available and the quality of their bicycles is excellent. Cycling around the lake is the best way to explore the area.
