Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaWe hiked from Magome to Tsumago (delightful!) and stayed here because accommodation in Tsumago is limited. The Hotel Fukinomori has a shuttle service that guests of Tokonomiso can use- from Tsumago and Nagiso station which is handy. Guests can also use the onsen. The hotel is very simple and clean. Make sure you bring dinner and breakfast supplies- there is a microwave and a fridge to use. (No convenience stores or supermarkets in Tsumago either, if that’s where you’re coming from).

AustraliaThe building lounge area and rooms were very musty- damp smell to all the rooms. Needed to be aired out slot. Considering it only offered self catering it was very poor that basic cutlery and crockery ( bowls, plates, was not supplied so we could eat our food. Strong smell in female toilets.
The onsen was amazing, beds were good, shuttle very convenient and staff friendly

JapanWe were aware of this in advance but I think they're small inconveniences to be aware of: If you have to leave early in the morning (like we did) then you have to walk to the bus stop for 20 mins (fortunately it was downhill) or you have to book a taxi. The shuttle starts running at 9am. I appreciated the tea and coffee on offer and the fridge that was available in the common area. It would've been since to have a communal sink too, because without one it made making food, etc. a little difficult at times. We had to have an early dinner in Tsumago or bring instant food that could be cooked with a kettle due to the facilities situation.
Staff were lovely. The onsen was wonderful, especially with the cold pool and sauna, (it had to be accessed via the hotel across the road but I didn't mind). I like wearing the yukata, haori and geta they offered. The free shuttle to Tsumago and Nagiso.

ItalyNothing remarkable.
The room was japanese style and it was spacious for two people. In the room there is a sink and the rest is shared on the floor. It was nice to be able to use the onsen from the sister hotel and to have free parking with the car.

JapanIt is very isolated. They mentioned bring your own food. But there's only a microwave. The nearest supermarket is 20 minutes away by car. And it had very little in it.
The bath was nice. It was raining so the walk to the outside bath was a bit slippery. But the view of the stars would have been amazing.

JapanMeals are not included and as the hotel is out in the mountains you will need to bring your own food or have a car to get to one of the restaurants a few kilometres away. The hotel sent us an email in advance to inform us of this so it was no problem, and there were refrigerators and microwaves for us to use.
Beautiful location in its own valley in the mountains. In late April the flowering peach trees look beautiful! This property is an annex of Hotel Fukinomori, just across the car park, and is an excellent way to enjoy the hotel’s facilities at a cheaper price, especially the amazing onsen and its view. If you don’t mind missing out on the kaiseki course meal then this is a great ryokan experience for a much lower price. It’s also a short drive / shuttle bus to the nearby post-towns of Tsumago and Magome, highly recommended!

United KingdomA lovely little inn with authentic Japanese style bedding. Basic facilities (no shower), but you can use the onsen in the sister hotel next door. Handy shuttle bus to/from tsumago as it's quite far up in the mountains. They only go twice in the morning and twice in the afternoon, so check with hotel before coming. We missed it and it was quite an expensive cab ride.

New ZealandOur room was quite dirty, with marks on the walls and floor.
The hotel is a long way from anywhere, which is probably its attraction for most visitors. The shuttle service worked well though to reiterate its a long drive from Tsumago. Having a car would make it a little easier, but once you are there youre probably not going to leave anyway. We took food from Nagiso, as there is nothing to eat there. There are no food options in Tsumago or near the hotel (closest is around 2km away - a soba shop) There are vending machines for beers, and drinks and you can buy instant noodles. The room was fine, nothing special. However the Onsen in the main hotel was excellent, with a sauna, plunge pool, and outside baths.

AustraliaI thought the posters in the common area detracted from the ambience. Not much to dislike.
Beautiful onsen. Convenient shuttle bus. Quiet. Large traditional room. Signs of aging, but contributed to the historic traditional feel. I loved the Shoji screens opening up to a lovely garden view.

United StatesFor some odd reason, the onsen changing room (in the hotel's central location) had a lot of bugs (they resembled hornets, but they were passive) in the male room. I am unsure why they were not professionally removed, but it did not affect my onsen experience. The room was clean, but it seemed like it had seen better days! This general area is very remote. Expect to bring coins to pay for buses. There are also no IC cards in the area. These are things to note and are not negatives about the accommodation itself. Lastly, many restaurants close early. You must bring your own food! There are grocery stores in town, so take advantage of them while walking alongside the bridge near Nagiso station! The central town area is beautiful, and it will be gratifying if you are willing to walk a bit! The overall experience felt luxurious but ended once you reached your room and tried the onsen. There was also a curfew that was reasonable but felt restricting. Lastly, a small fee for the onsen must be paid when you check out (this is something you were informed of before using the onsen). I recommend this accommodation to travelers willing to handle a few unusual circumstances because the area is very rewarding! Remember to bring your own food! I have had better experiences with other accommodations regarding the price I paid, but the accommodation is excellent for budget travelers! Also, renting a car would make traveling to this location easier, but you miss out on the scenery and shops!
Google Maps is essential for traveling in Japan! This hotel is in a good location for certain attractions. I traveled alone, and the accommodation had a good environment. The area provides easy access to Tsumago-juku! I took the bus and trains, but using Google Maps was easy! I just matched the bus number on the left side of the road and pressed the "stop" button when I wanted to get off. I only used public transportation because it was unnecessary to use anything else! Lastly, this hotel is for individuals who wish to travel most of the day and need somewhere to rest at night. Interesting perks about the accommodation: - Free Towels - Reasonable Check-In and Check-Out time - Friendly Staff - Lock and Key Room - Good privacy - Common lounge - Private Bathroom - Easy Checkout - Shuttle bus from Nagiso Station and back! (Or you can use public transportation if you want to leave earlier!) - Free Tea and Microwave - Onsen at night is a good experience

Big quiet room provided with easy access to shared bathroom. Having a huge lounge to exclusively use was a bonus. You have to bring your own food but to have fridge, microwave and hot water was good. Remember to bring your own utensils. Onsen in the main hotel was nice to use as was the absolutely essential shuttle bus from Nagiso station or Tsumago. Very remote location.

IsraelThere were no showers on premise and we had to go to the hotel next door to shower. Also check in services were next door. Not pleasant when it rains. Staff could not speak any English.
There were no meals included, but we knew in advance that we need to eat before we arrive. The Japanese style room was large, but not really comfortable for my western standards. The evening receptionist did whatever he could for us.
