Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Loved everything about the place and the staff were so friendly - felt like a large and luxurious home. Also they have they have most cute dog. It's about a 100 meters from the piste. Oh - oh, and the food is amazing, such a journey into Japanese during our 3 days and 3 dinners!

AustraliaWe loved our stay at Shiga Kogen Lodge. The meals were incredible particularly the dinners which were different each night and allowed us to try many traditional Japanese dishes. The traditional rooms and onsen were excellent. My boys loved to play with their gorgeous dog Moko each day. The owners were so friendly and always available to answer questions. The lodge is super close to Yokoteyama ski resort which had more than enough ski runs for us. We would definitely recommend this place, thank you for a great stay!

United StatesThis family run lodge is fantastic. I loved everything about it. I could walk to Mt. Yokete to jump on a ski lift or a local bus that shuttles you to the other mountain locations. The couple who own the lodge are so nice and serve the best meals (breakfast and dinner). I enjoyed relaxing in the onsen, after long days of skiing and being entertained by their beautiful golden retriever, Moku. If you have the chance to ski in Shiga Kogen, I would recommend this traditional Japanese lodge.

United StatesThe property was in a great location for skiing at Shiga Kogen specifically the Yokoteyama Ski Lifts. There was a rental shop right next to the hotel which made it convenient to get gear. After a long day of powder filled skiing, the onsen is a great place to relax. But the real highlight was the staff. They were extremely accommodating when our plans changed and needed to stay another night and they were helpful while navigating the area. Additionally, the meals she makes for dinner and breakfast are beyond delicious and if you walk away hungry you’re doing it wrong. If I were Michelin I would give her a star! Whenever I’m back in the area I will definitely stay again.

AustraliaOur room only had the older style futons, which were not thick or dense enough to provide adequate comfort when lying on your side, although on the flipside, were great for straightening out your spine when lying on your back.
The Lodge is kept at around 20 C, so the common areas are all warm, our room was pleasantly warm even without the heating on (and you can open the window to air it out), the whole Lodge feels spacious, there is a lounge with wood fire at night, there is a very affectionate Golden Retriever who will make you feel welcome, the location gives good access to Yokote-yama/Shibu-toge ski resort and Kumanoyu ski resort, the meals are very good including some regional specialities in the evening, the onsen bath was the perfect temperature (a little hot at first, but enough to warm your body through after soaking for 5 or 10 minutes), and most of all, the hospitality was very warm and generous.

AustraliaShiga Kogen Lodge was an excellent choice. The food was amazing. A specially prepared Japanese feast every night. “Gochiso sama Deshita". Breakfast was a buffet, a mixture of Japanese and western foods. Definitely no need for lunch… The lobby, common area is warm and very welcoming with plenty of seating with a beautiful fire place. ‘Mojo’, the Golden Retriever, loves a pat and greeted us every afternoon. The Onsen was excellent after a good days skiing, to soothe the legs. We stayed in a Japanese style room, it was clean and large, plenty of room. The owners were very understanding with my limited language skills and went out of there way to help. It was an excellent place to stay for my very first Japanese ski trip. I recommend staying here and we will be back. Thankyou. Arigatō.

AustraliaThe pillows weren’t the most comfortable but that is coming from a westerners perspective.
The staff were so friendly, welcoming and would go out of their way to help you with anything you needed. They were always engaging and happy for a chat. The best part was moko (the golden retriever) greeted us each afternoon for a pat. The food was OUTSTANDING!! Some of the best dinners we have ever eaten, and SO much of it.
