Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThe hot water ran out at the sink. Seems to be a hot water tank under the bench but small.
The location was great. There is a stream behind the house and a track that follows the stream. The house was clean and comfortable. There is an outside area with chairs and a barbecue etc (extra). Easy drive to the onsen and the lake

Being able to make wood fire, and have a bbq made this place attractive to book. But when we arrived, it was beyond our expectations. It has everything we could imagine about a vacation home in a snowy mountain, next to a stream. The location was amazing, so close to all the attractions in Noboribetsu. The house was extremely well equipped, and offered so many amenities. The host was kind and flexible. We wish we stayed there longer, and had more people to share with.

SingaporeThe washer didn't have a dryer, and we had to put the wet clothes in front of the heater to dry. Otherwise, our stay was great!
I quite liked the cottage, and it had a few heaters inside. As it was winter, the owner was kind enough to provide a slip of paper to encourage us to go to the hot springs around the place and even recommended a curry soup place. The beds were comfy, and we enjoyed our stay tremendously.

The house is very quaint and cosy. Very well equipped and the grounds and gardens are lovely and well kept. The host, Roman, is a great guy and very hospitable and friendly. He helped us to set up the bonfire and started our BBQ for us. He also helped us to get the foods and drinks for the BBQ. Very good fella. We will recommend the property to our friends.

FranceBeautiful location. The house has all you need for staying a few days! The kitchen is well equipped. Simple but comfy bedrooms. We loved sitting outside and watching the stars. Roman installed an AC in the living room and it really helped because the house does get hot.

SingaporeIf we really had to nitpick, the towels provided could be bigger (like the regular sized) and heater could be installed in the toilet! Otherwise, all is good! Nothing really bad at all!
We loved the outdoor spaces, cosy swing and dining area. Lovely garden with blooming flowers and the sound of the canal nearby! Clean bedrooms and fully equipped kitchen with great coffee options! It was really a place designed for occupants to relax and enjoy! Even the bedsheets and the blankets smelled great. Lotsa children toys to keep them entertained, including bouncer and cot! Loved the convenience of the water dispenser provided! Roman and his mom were more than pleasant, even went the extra mile of getting us bread from a popular bakery. Prompt replies from Roman with regards to any inquiries. Love this place and highly recommend!

MalaysiaThere was a flight of wooden stairs going down to the cottage - it was an exercise to carry heavy luggage down.
The property is conveniently located with a Lawson within walking distance and a supermarket within a few minutes drive. The internet connection was excellent - one of the best we had throughout our trip. We checked in quite late and the host was so kind to drop by the next morning to ensure that everything was all right. The kitchen was very fully stocked with ample pots and pans and cutleries and the host even provided essential cooking needs like oil, salt, pepper etc. Coffee and tea were also provided.

SingaporeThe bath/laundry area could have been better heated up. The metal bathtub was also too deep for our liking, as I didn’t think it was safe enough with young kids. Users should also prepare cash for the fees as the host is unable to accept credit payment.
The house was made available early and it came very well equipped with what you can ask for in a homestay. The host was also very helpful with queries. It delivered what it promised with some extra.

We loved everything about this house. It gave us the feeling of little cabin in the woods but it was still next to the bus stop. The house has everything that you would need in your own house. It feels like a home and if anyone is coming to Noboribetsu, you must stay here for a night or two.

SingaporeAll the bedrooms are heated via a kerosene system except for the living room. The bathroom and toilet are not heated at all. During winter, it can be pretty unbearable. Bathing was torture with constant cold air filling the bathroom.
The property is located near Jigokudani & other attractions. With a shed beside and a river flowing behind, it’s a great place to stay from the usual hotel style. It's tranquil, and the sky lights up with stars. Lawson Mart is located within a short drive. Boardgames & tons of amenities provided within the property are a plus.

United StatesThe entire experience would've been completely different for us if the host had communicated with us. I don't think this is the case for everyone because there are many glowing accounts in the guest book and here of how wonderful he treated them. So you will probably be more lucky than us. For us, all communications were initiated by me. House is near two bus stops. Some buses do not stop at one of them because they are doing a loop through the neighborhood to reach the theme park. We were on one of those buses with all our luggage for months of travel. Instructions did not tell us which direction to go. So I called to ask. Host kindly met us and took some of our luggage to the house. But those of us walking with luggage did not know where we were going until we were there. I had two elderly and one child to take care of and it was hard on them. When host dropped off that luggage he told my child about the outbuilding and then left. We did not see or hear from him again. He did not tell us how to operate the gas burner, so we could not cook. He did not tell us how to operate the water heater for drinking hot drinks, so we could not do that. We survived on rice and microwave food. Other guests wrote about wonderful dinners he cooked. He did not tell us about how to leave the place, though I wrote and asked. So we cleaned up after ourselves and left the key. Later I asked if we had offended him somehow and he said no, his phone was broken. Maybe something was happening in his life. We did not expected royal treatment, just enough to understand how to live in this house. For travellers without a car it is essential to understand the bus system. Because this is a tourist town, you can find people who are very helpful and who may speak some of your language. You also can find people who are impatient and tired of foreigners with luggage. House has lots of smells.
The location is excellent in most ways. It is very pretty. It is close to the bus line that connects Noboribetsu station to Noboribetsu Onsen. You can reach a large grocery market by riding the bus. You can walk to a family market. There is a fresh ice cream place that also appears to be a thrift store that easy to walk to. They may serve more than that. You can walk to the historical theme park from the house. There is a canal or ditch behind the house that has running water which drowns out most traffic sounds. Even thought the main road is a minute away it feels like you are in the country. Birds are around, flowers and herbs grow. The swing is nice. The house has a big open living room and large sinks with many dishes.
