Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaBreakfast was a little early for we weary travellers.
True Japanese style accommodation, with a few mod cons. The staff were so welcoming & helpful. They also bussed us to the monkey park, (twice!) & our train at Yudanaka.

United KingdomIt was difficult to communicate with some staff due to the language barrier. We were quite confused at dinner but it added to the experience.
The views from the room were amazing. Complimentary ride to the monkey park and to the train station. The futons were surprisingly comfortable. Onsens were great, although a very odd experience for us prudish British folk. It was great to have a traditional experience, wearing a kimono and a traditional dinner.

United KingdomNothing to dislike.
The staff at the Omodaka could not have been more helpful. The room was great, spacious and clean and comfortable. The facilities, including an Onsen, were fabulous but it was the attitude of the staff that made our stay such a great experience. We were collected from Yudanaka station and given a lift to the start of the Snow Monkey trail. We also had dinner at the Hotel, which was another great experience and also great value.

GeorgiaThe facilities were a bit outdated, don't get me wrong everything worked and was still clean, but you could tell it was pretty outdated.
Amazing service. We got confused with the train schedule and arrived way later than expected, there was a shuttle service from the station but we arrived too late for it, the cab was very inexpensive. The staff were waiting up for us, and still served our dinner warm. We had no problem speaking Englith. It was an amazing dinner by the way! We got to wear yukatas and eat some great food. The breakfast was also pretty good- traditional Japanese, with many options. They transferred us for free to the monkey park - but only one way.

SwitzerlandTraditional ryokan experience with delicious half board included. We were dressed in kimonos provided by the hotel for dinner, very unique experience. It is a cute family run hotel, very well kept with attention to detail and guests. Lovely onsen is a plus (although the water was a bit too hot for me). Transfers from Yudanaka station provided for free by the hotel. Also a transfer to Snow Monkeys park was included. We have also tried the hotel restaurant for lunch - excellent burger (unusual in Japan) and refreshing nice beer. One of the best stays on our Japan trip, can recommend without any hesitation. Thank you!!

United StatesGreat staff. They welcomed us like family. We wanted to see the snow monkeys and they provided us with all the information we needed to include dropping us off at the park, holding our bags for the day, then taking us to the train station. Amazing people and the onsen was great as well.

United KingdomJapanese style room was beautiful and came with yukatas and traditional tea to enjoy. The Onsen was super relaxing and had an outdoor hot spring too. Super affordable and they have a souvenir shop there as well which is reasonable. There is also a cafe/diner next door. The view was great of the mountains and the river. The staff were lovely and friendly. They took us to the Snow Monkey Park free of charge and then also helped us with bus times as we were travelling. Couldn't recommend enough!

AustraliaThe property did feel a little dated.
The staff at Omodaka were incredibly friendly & despite the language barrier did anything to help us out, it really felt like the staff were a family & did everything to look after all their guests. The outdoor onsen was an incredible experience & if you want a traditional ryokan near the Jigokudani Monkey Park this a great a place to stay. The Kaiseki multi course dinner is also a must, you get given a private tatami room with multiple dishes from soba, tempura, sashimi and a bunch of local dishes. The mountain views were also spectacular with the snow caps & river nearby.

United KingdomThe traditional tatami mat and bed was a little hard for my western taste, so make sure you request the right bed.
A traditional style onsen hotel. The hotel is dated, but its a traditional Japanese experience so don't let this put you off. The couple who run it were really lovely and welcoming. The indoor and outdoor onsen was a highlight with great view of the mountains. Traditional japanese style breakfast - japanese curry, miso soup, vegetables etc.

AustraliaSome basic ammenities could have been provided like shampoo/ conditioner/ shower gel/ hair dryer instead of razor and toothbrush. Property needs a new coat of paint/ wall paper. Everything looks a bit tired. Also, given that there is a “gaijin”who is part of the family managment, more English instructions and signs should be put up in the property.
On property onsen was a fabulous advantage! There was a “pick up and drop off” service from Yudanaka train station and was also able to do a drop off at the foot of the Snow Monkey trail.

United KingdomThe staff were amazing. They even offer free lifts via shuttle bus to and from the station. I stayed for 1 night. In the morning, they let me leave my bags at the hotel and provided a lift to the snow monkeys. There is no lifts back, but it's best to walk anyway In my opinion, it's only around 30 mins and the views are amazing. You can always get a local bus if not.
