Okay, just one minor detail was that the bathroom was on the first floor and had to walk down the stairs from the bedroom upstairs, so if you have bad knees or legs, you might want to reconsider, but that was the part of her charm of the place. So if God has granted you good healthy legs, then there is nothing to complain about.

Everything. The place was wonderful, but the host, Shinji, was even more amazing. One of the best travel experiences we have enjoyed in our lives. We wish we had stayed here for the entire Kyoto trip.

While our stay at the machiya was wonderful, we encountered an issue upon arrival during a heavy rainstorm. We were soaked and my husband was already unwell. The host immediately conducted a two-hour Kyoto briefing while we were still in wet clothes, which was very uncomfortable. We suggest allowing guests time to dry off, change, or rest for an hour before starting any lengthy briefings to enhance comfort and prevent similar issues in the future.

Our recent stay at this charming machiya was nothing short of magical. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the warm hospitality and attention to detail that made our visit so memorable. One of the highlights of our stay was the exceptional service provided by our host. I have specific dietary restrictions, and while I mentioned them during the booking process, I didn't expect much. To my surprise, our host went above and beyond to accommodate my needs, providing delicious and suitable meals that made me feel truly cared for. This level of consideration and effort was incredibly heartwarming and added a special touch to our experience. We arrived during a heavy rainstorm, which could have dampened our spirits, but instead, it turned into a beautiful part of our stay. The machiya itself is a perfect blend of traditional charm and modern comfort, and watching the rain from the comfort of the bathtub was an experience we will never forget. The sound of the rain and the view of the garden created a serene and calming atmosphere that made us feel like we were in a different world. Speaking of the garden, it was simply beautiful. The meticulously maintained greenery provided a picturesque backdrop to our stay, enhancing the overall aesthetic of the machiya. The beds were incredibly comfortable, ensuring we had restful nights and woke up refreshed the next morning. There is no single aspect that we could/should possibly be complaining about. Point.

This place is just... WOW!! If you are looking for some UNIQUE exprience and a possibility to truły exprience Japan and Japanese culture, this is a place for you to be. The apartament and its quality is just excellent. The small, yet very charmnig, garden available in there allows for end-of-the-day relaxation and recovery. The service is just splendid - top of the top for us. And the man in charge and behind all of this - Shinji-san and his team - is a 'cherry on the cake'. Full professional, yet very warm and friendly. Thanks to his and his crew efforts - Shoei! - you should feel like you are being taken care of in full. Without his very detailed and insightful advices we would never be able to explore Kyoto and surrounding area the way we did. For us - with no stay at this place, our Japanese experience would not be even half of what it was thanks to it. BIG THANKS for this - it is something to remember for the rest of our lives. Simply... Very simply the best accommodation I ever stayed in. Extrême charm, beautiful decoration, impeccably clean. Just perfect. And the staff that took care of us went way beyond. They took hours to explain all about the neighborhood and best attractions, they made sure that we always had what we needed and wanted. Amazing. Really great service! Thank you.

The uniqueness, cleanliness and wonderful staff! Such a beautiful, clean property only short a walk from Nijo station. Shin provided us with lots of information about the local area. When we arrived back at the house each day, little treats would be left for us, which was just so lovely. Shin also made reservations for us at some fabulous local restaurants. Loved this house and loved Kyoto. Our best stay in Japan and probably anywhere I’ve ever stayed due to the personal touches.

Everything was truly amazing! The artful touches and rich heritage of the room left us in awe. Our hosts, Shohei and Mr. Shin, went above and beyond our expectations, providing exceptional hospitality before, during, and after our stay. They took the time to explain the history and significance of the room, and even recommended fantastic local restaurants and activities. Their kindness and attention to detail were impressive, from helping us with our luggage on a rainy day to ensuring our Uber driver could find the location easily. Walking distance of 5-8min from train station. A Bit hard to find where is the reception room. Will be good if the door itself can label as reception. As it can be miss if you are arriving in late afternoon.

Extremely good service and attention to details. The staff there were very attentive and professional. There is literally nothing to complain about. I only have words of praise for the staff and the accommodation. The garden was very well-kept and has a very good artistic presentation. The house is built extremely well to keep you comfortable and has very good smart systems to give you controls over heating and lighting. The environment is very quiet and clean, and all the necessities provided are from high quality brands. I've been to quite a few places and this establishment is THE best one. It is the quintessential of Japanese accommodation and service!

It is a bit of a ways from main spots and about a 7-10 minute walk to the nearest train station-- not really a big issue if you are able to plan well ahead.

We really appreciated the personalised service. We got there early for check in, planning to simply drop our bags and come back. However, when we got there, our room was ready and were checked in right away at no extra cost. We also got lots of good tips and recommendations for all things from food to shopping to sightseeing. The place was so beautiful and had excellent amenities.

Our welcome from the general manager was exceptional. We were only there 1 night but he helped us plan the whole of our three day trip, told us all about Kyoto and gave us wonderful recommendations. He totally made our entire trip and we are extremely grateful.

First of all before even getting to the beautiful property itself, I have a give a mention to the hosts of the apartment. They greeted us at the front door, helped us inside. And then proceeded to prepare a welcome gift of local food and drink. Shin went above and beyond any sort of service either of us have received in the past, and helped us some much with what to do across are sadly short stay there. But we managed to pack in such a lot thanks to his help, from places to eat, to attractions across the region. I cannot speak highly enough about him! Now the apartment! What can I say? This was one of the most unique experiences I've ever had, and it's heritage and transitional background was amazing. For anyone looking to get a unique and transitional experience out of there time in Kyoto I would recommend staying here. If your tall like myself, just watch your head when going from room to room, I managed to bang my head a couple of times haha.

Friendly and knowledgeable hosts! Made suggestions about how to make our way around Kyoto. Hosts went the extra mile when cleaning our room including rolling our charging cables. The breakfast, snacks, and tea were all delicious and tailored to our liking. Bath and garden were exceptional! Definitely a once in a lifetime stay in Kyoto!

When we booked the house it was a bit unclear that they have more than one house for rent and that each interior is slightly different. Not a big problem, because all of them look beautiful, but it's something to keep in mind if you want the round bathtub that overlooks the garden (it's only in one of the houses-ours didn't have one like that).

Wonderful place to feel the history and culture of Kyoto. The guest was extremely kind and helpful and offered so much interesting and useful information about the area, about the house, and about the places we can visit. Everything is clean and kept in pristine condition, it was a very romantic and pleasant stay and we wish we could've stayed longer.
