Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

JapanI did not like the sleepwear that was provided. Also, I think the Onsen was okay, it might’ve been a little too small and hot for me.
The hotel was very close to the station. The food at their buffet was very good. And I like the room I stayed in.

The hotel was quite close to the train station and bus station, I believe about 4 blocks away, definitely a bonus when walking around on cold and snowy days and nights. I believe we stayed in a "Superior" room with 3 twin beds. It was fairly spacious, not tiny and cramped like hotel rooms in Tokyo. The room was clean and appointed with the usual bathroom toiletry items which are such a nice touch in many Japanese hotels - disposable wash cloths, razors, a comb/brush, toothbrush and toothpaste. There were laundry facilities, which are a key feature that I look for on longer trips, especially during winter when more clothing and layers are needed. The laundry facilities in the women's onsen was full, so I had my husband check the men's onsen and of course, both were empty, so my husband did the laundry - an added bonus! The onsen was great, modern and very clean, wonderful after a cold winter day. There were several convenience stores nearby, and while the area immediately around the hotel wasn't overflowing w/ restaurants like in Tokyo, we found some excellent restaurants and were able to find fresh, delicious seafood - the reason we came to Hokkaido!

United KingdomThe public bath changing area is very small. Makes changing out of clothes awkward as you rush so you're not in the way and only 3 seats for drying hair vanity area. Bath is just one pool Also washer and dryer are in the changing room. So you'll be next to naked people when operating it... No water bottle was provided in the room.
Great value and location. Staff were helpful with queries. Everything clean and room was warm and quiet - couldn't really hear trains even though they were close. Free ice cream ice box after bath!

AustraliaOnly one towel hook on the door - quite common in Japan but not great if you want to reuse your towels (which most places make a big deal about for sustainability so I find it counterproductive). The toilet seat lid was slightly too large so it didn't fit next to the sink basin well. Sometimes the lid would fall on our back as we sat on the toilet seat.
Staff had good English. We arrived at 2pm and they advised our room was ready although they do store bags if it had not been the case. The room was spacious enough for us to lay out suitcase on the floor and we appreciated the storage area for it to be pushed under the unit next to the desk so it didn't impede the walkway. The bed was large and medium firmness and there were plenty of powerpoints around the room - definitely more than average compared to other accommodation we've stayed at. Wifi was fast and we managed to stream without any mid episode buffering. The breakfast provided had a good selection of foods - we particularly liked the meatballs.

ThailandBed - Personally, the bed was not that good I woke up with back pain. Room - The room has that sort of smell, when you walk into an old apartment that the owner used to smoke in the room. I think this might not apply to all the rooms.
Location - it's very close to the Sapporo station which allows flexibility of the trip. Value - definitely it's cheap compared to other hotels with the same requirement The staff is absolutely friendly and helpful.

AustraliaThe hotel is a bit outdated. We booked a triple room but given the twin room so had to go down to the reception area again to sort this out. The gentleman who assisted us was very apologetic and polite and he escorted us to the right room. The triple room is extremely tied, we couldn’t even open 1 luggage at a time. Yes the room fits 3 beds but it takes away all the space for luggages. I had to use the small round table as a base to place 1 luggage so that I could get my clothes etc There’s also no space to hang clothes in the tiny bathroom. A bit of a struggle for us with no space to open our luggages as we stayed for 4 nights. *Yes, Im aware of Japan’s room size standards, been to Japan so many times.
The location of the hotel isn’t too bad, it’s around a 5-7 mins walk from the station and shopping malls.
