My room was clean and well appointed, but could use some freshening up. The woodwork was a bit worn.

This hotel is in a lovely wooded setting away from Tsumago. Guests are treated to a free shuttle from Tsumago near the Nakasendo Trail and return ride to either Tsumago or the Nagiso Train Station. Super convenient for hikers. Dinner had the most extensive menu I’ve been served anywhere! Loved the 400 year old Japanese Cypress raw edge table in the lobby.

The staff serving the kaiseki were all international and detracted from the traditional Japanese experience. Also, there are no elevators so if you have heavy luggage, it can be a challenge.

Breathtaking mountain views from floor-to-ceiling windows in room and lounge area. Wonderful luxury lodge feel to the facility. The outdoor onsen was unbelievably peaceful, beautiful, and the perfect temperature. Kaiseki dinner and breakfast were delicious.

The hotel didn't send us any information before our arrival. Check in time define by the hotel is 15:00-23:00 We arrived at 18:40 after a day of hiking in the humidity of Japan in July. they told us Dinner is at 19:00 and they didn't agree to let us take a shower before dinner...

True Japanese style Amazing view from the room. Everything is clean and well equipped. The Dinner was very impressive

Sublime view of the mountains covered in forests. I wish I would have had time to explore the srea. The lounge area was very inviting. I particularly enjoyed the outdoor Onsen. I went several times. The room was very spacious and equipped with everything I wished for during the stay. They made my bed during the great dinner experience, what seems to be custom but for me it was a lovely surprise. So much food and so delicious. The waiters were very kind. Shuttle service was on time and communication with the hotel beforehand proactive friendly and helpful

There was nothing to not like. It would be expensive to get cabs places and you wouldn’t be able to walk to where you wanted to go but they have a shuttle that you must book which is honestly perfect. It was out of the way and peaceful.

The staff really looked after you. The onsens were exceptional. The breakfast and dinner were delightful as well.

The Japanese floor mattresses were too hard for us.

There were room fresheners deployed in the main lobby area. My partner is allergic to air fresheners. We asked that they be turned off and they were temporarily. No one should use air fresheners. They are toxic

Horse intestines and horse meat as part of the dinner and breakfast menu. I requested not to have those items before arrival but they still were served. They did accommodate my wife with a vegetarian meal. Also, no coffee served in the morning. Instead, you could go to lounge area and bring it back to your table or drink afterwards.

Great onsen outdoors after walking on nakasendo trail. Kieseiki meal for dinner and breakfast. Really feel like you are away from it all in the mountains. Great to have a 20 minute shuttle from Tsumago.
