Was not aware that the restaurants would not be open until a few days before the stay.

The staff was very welcoming and gave good advice about the extreme wind altert. The room was spacious and clean.

I didn't like that I had to call upon arrival. I only had a data-only SIM, would have appreciated if it was a number I could Whatsapp. We had to ask the lady at the supermarket for help and she chided us for not having a phone that could call. It would also be helpful to let guests know that the check-in location is in a different location from the hotel beforehand.

We really liked our room, room 3, which faced the water and houses just across. The shower was good and strong, and the toilet was large. Beds were comfortable, and the room was nicely heated. More than enough space to open luggage and store items. Breakfast spread, which we paid for, was more than sufficient, and we were even allowed to take away extras. Note that during winter no restaurants are open in town, and you have to eat at Egilsstaðir, the town half an hour before. The drive can be challenging in the winter. The hotel did inform us of this nearing our stay date, but wish we knew earlier. I want to say we may not have chosen to stay at Hotel Aldan instead, but guess what? We saw the Northern Lights clear and bright, dancing across the sky. So bonus points I guess haha!

Could improve more on the (1) room heating and (2) house renovation and (3) security - there’s no reception attended for Old Post Office hotel building

The town is fairy tale like and was really amazing. The room’s view facing the lake is good as well.

Noise from upstairs rooms was a little intrusive at times.

Great location for arriving by bus and leaving by ferry. Lovely staff very accommodating of our need to use luggage storage for some hours. Beautiful view out over the water (even spotted the seals from our bedroom window!)

    Room was small.

Room and bathroom are a bit small, but cozy. Breakfast was nice - simple and fresh. Staff were lovely. The only issue was space. Barely had room to open 2 suitcases in our room. One opened by the door which blocked us in.

Bed was pretty soft, not much for amenities for the price. Old building floors creaked when people walked, walls thin could clearly hear people in hallways.

Really good location, we had a nice room overlooking the water. Room was clean.

The extra small room is literally an extra small room. Very limited space to put luggage. We brought the necessities to the room and left the luggage in the car. Bathroom sink was dripping, shower tiny and the bathroom light burnt out.

The road coming in was snowy. If driving in? it is high and exposed to snow and ice. We drove out and the road was dangerous. This was week two September and beware. You can get trapped here.

We were in the old post office across the bridge. It was described as a very small double and so it was. No complaints it was as described. Downstairs was a common space referred to as a kitchen, No heating. No hob to cook !!!!!! . But ok to sit. On level 1 a comfy space at the end of the bedroom corridor to sit, settees and a radiator and lovely. The room itself. Good for a night. Longer than that the lack of space is too uncomfortable. But for one night. Fine.

The reception is not in the same building as u would be staying, so please make sure to go to reception to get your keys . It's in a walkable distance.

Rooms a bit warm with only a small window that can be opened for fresh air. Single glass windows on street side means you hear some of the traffic but it is a quiet town, so not too bad.

Charming hotel, wonderfully located. Rooms in the old post office were small but comfortable and there is also a sitting room to relax. Friendly staff at the reception building. Breakfast buffet with a lot of options, very tasteful.

What a lovely small village. Various rooms and locations provided, not in the post office itself as I mistakenly had thought. Our rooom was large clean and functional. However what I want to share is about the breakfast and restaurant that comes with it. Simply outstanding, what a joy to experience the quality of food and wine for prices not any more than Iceland standards. A pleasure!

I wish the rooms had a lock on the inside. We had someone trying to get into our room. She said the reception desk had given her a key to room 1 which was our room. It was quite scary to be woken up by someone trying to get in the room and then poking their head into your window.

Great location. Beautiful views and steps from the water. Such a cool town.
