Hotel in Matsumoto
Located within a 6-minute walk of Matsumoto Station and 2.4 miles of The Japan Ukiyo-e Museum, Onyado Nono Matsumoto Natural Hot Spring provides rooms in Matsumoto. One of the best hotels that I’ve stayed in Japan. It’s a traditional Japanese style hotel with no shoes policy, which makes the experience even better. Super clean and spacious rooms. Amazing onsen and free soba after 9.30 PM.
Hotel in Shiojiri
Located in Shiojiri, 21 miles from Takato Joshi Park, BYAKU Narai provides accommodations with a garden, free private parking, a restaurant and a bar. Let’s get some of the important stuff out of the way first - rooms were clean, spacious, staff were friendly, and the check-in process was easy. The room also comes with a heated tub which you can add your complimentary herbal salts. And the onsen was very enjoyable (albeit a few degrees too hot for me). But the star of the show was the dinner, which was outstanding. The chef takes you on journey around Japan with a focus on Narai and the surrounding regions. The menu apparently had inputs from the head chef of Den. The sake that the brewery produces is exceptional. Breakfast the next day was also fantastic and very filling (traditional Japanese breakfast but elevated). If you factor in the quality and caliber of the meals (dinner, breakfast) along with the amenities (onsen, free fruit drinks, water, cold tea), it’s great value. Highly recommended especially if you’re traveling with a significant other. The property also has a sake bar (although my wife and I didn’t try it).

This hotel is much better than the photos shown in booking.com, especially the onsen, the photos shown in booking.com needed to be updated, to show the nice and clean onsen. The dinner and breakfast provided by the hotel, is the best Japanese meals my family ever had, It's very delicious and fresh, we enjoyed and finished everything in our plates. The onsen is not big but very nice, it has 2 onsen - one outdoor and one indoor, both are very warm and fantastic feel, especially after ski.

Nozawa Onsen
Altitude Nozawa is your average Nagano ski resort hotel with all the essentials intact. what has made our stay utterly enjoyable was the company of hotel staff. Our sincere gratitude to Jack, Kleber and Nobu san who went out of their ways to help us sort out the ski gear, picking us up and dropping us off to the slopes, bus terminals and restaurant outings. Paul, upon sudden notice of my diet, made me a mushroom omelette for breakfast, it was absolutely delicious. Such a lovely team, undoubtedly due to the leadership skills of Jack.
Suwa
Hamanoyu feels like an old grand dame from another era. The staff do their best to keep up the quality and they do a good job. My room was small and cute. The sauna and hot spring facilities were well-maintained and felt comfortable and relaxing. I only got breakfast, but it was more than adequate. I feel that not enough. People are visiting that part of Nagano these days, and that tourism is suffering, which is ironic because much of the rest of Japan appears to be booming. I hope, I can do my small part to help get the word out.
Nagano
The owner made an effort to explain house rules well. English signs were clear, too. And he prepared travel guides. Non-Japanese should appreciate such things and be respectful. The man probably depends on this for income, and we get it for a VERY cheap price, unlike others that charge a lot so don't expect hotel-level accommodation. Travelers shouldn't behave like entitled guests. The bed was cozy. Location was a good walking distance to Nagano station and same block as a nice grocery store. All you need is there.
Nagano
- Great location near restaurants, shopping (Big Japanese pharmacy / cosmetics shop, Uniqlo). - Super friendly and wonderful hosts - so thoughtful and kind, made the stay extremely special and intimate, an exquisite cultural and Japanese hospitality experience. Hosts made excellent recommendations daily to curate our travel itinerary to various tourist spots within an hour’s drive away. - Bonus: the rooms are equipped with a spa tub for Nagano water baths Wished we stayed much longer ! We already plan to return !
Absolutely FANTASTIC Hotel! Very friendly staff, great facilities, great breakfast, accessible parking, very advanced electronics all over, located in the heart of the city and conestted to (Shinkansen) Nagano train Station, walkable distance to everything you need, Zenko-ji Talpme is just 30 min walking distance. The hotel was a great focal point for our ski trip - 45 min. by car to Hakuba and 45 min. to Shiga Kogen. Make reservations! Be on time! Great reliable experience!
I stayed for a night on my way to Shiga Kogen. Hotel is perfectly located right across Nagano station, you see it the moment you exit the station. Which was excellent after a long day of travel. Super convenient to check out the next morning and just cross the road for the bus. Hotel was clean and staff were friendly and welcoming, and the hotel provides some thoughtful amenities are provided at the lobby. There is a 711 right next door.
Very friendly owner who gave tips on sightseeing in Nagano. I was here a week before the december holidays, and he also explained how christmas and new year are celebrated in Japan, and gave me pointers where to continue my vacation during the holidays. Also, the beds were very confortable with warm blankets and the heat in the dorms was turned on every night, which was very nice considering the tempuratures in Nagano in december.
Nagano
If you are looking for a nice 1-2 night stay in the heart of Nagano's traditional temple district, this is it. The rooms are comfortable and the staff is extremely accommodating. The breakfast and dinners are in an authentic ryokan style, with many different traditional Japanese dishes. I loved the location because it was easy to just step out and do a bit of shopping or go to a nearby restaurant/cafe.
Matsumoto
Amazing room with great views over the Japanese Alps. The top-floor room had its own private outdoor onsen which was fantastic - hot and relaxing. Our plan had dinner and breakfast included. The dinner was very good, all based on local-Nagano prefecture produce, though maybe they tried a little too hard with some of the dishes. Breakfast excellent, fresh bakery, homemade sausages, fresh salads and soups.
Great location. Its a 5 min walk away from Nagano station. It was good for taking a quick trip to Zenkoji Temple in the morning, which is 16 mins away by bus. Hotel room was on the small end for a double room, but we didn't mind. The staff was very polite and helpful when helping international tourists check in. The free breakfast was tasty and filling. Check out was very fast.
Nagano
Everything about my stay was great - from the beautiful traditional Japanese house, delicious feast carefully prepared by the owners, warm and cozy room with a spectacular view of Nagano mountains, to the surrounding nature, snow, and calming atmosphere. Oshi-san (the owner) is the kindest and most welcoming person you can imagine - can't recommend this stay enough!
Nagano
Comfy and clean bed ’pod’ and shared bathroom facilities. Nice bar downstairs, the beers are really good though a bit pricey. The staff are super-nice and put up with my terrible Japanese 🤣 the location is perfect for Nagano station (10 mins walk max) and then it's a straight walk to the temples through the main shopping streets. I'd definitely stay again.
Yamanouchi
Very friendly hosts. They speak very little English, but they did their best to make my stay comfortable. There is onsen public bath which is nice to relax after day of walking. I was even offered a free ride to snow monkey park! Hotel is a few minutes walk from Yudanaka station, which is very convenient if you want to visit monkey park or go to Nagano.
Is my second time staying at Dormy Inn Nagano and it still maintains its standard. Hotel is near station. Onsen is nice and peaceful place after whole day’s activities. Lobby provides free beverages all day. Staff are professional to help me forward my luggage to another hotel. Highly recommend anyone to stay here when visiting Nagano.
Small hotel very close to ski lift. Very nice and very hot onsen (hot bath). Traditional breakfast included, but no coffee. Ski room and storage in basement. 2 restaurants in same building, and lots more within walking distance, also close to bus station for bus to Nagano and small convenience store. Friendly and helpful staff.
Yamanouchi
Wonderful Ryokan to stay in. The staff are so welcoming and accommodating. The onsen was awesome. The food was delicious and a great taste of traditional Japanese food and food famous in the local Nagano prefecture. The rooms were spacious and they make up the futon for you. The shuttle bus to the Monkey park was so helpful.
The location is perfect for skiing: the slopes (including rental office) is a less than 2 minute walk down the road. There is a rental shop in the building, but it only has beginner gear: advanced gear can be found an 8-minute walk down the road. The bus stop is also close by, both for the local bus and the bus to Nagano.
Yamanouchi
Tasty dinner and breakfast, traditional Japanese clothing Yukata (provided free of charge in the room for the guests), en-suite bathroom, lovely traditional Japanese room, free shuttle pick up from & drop off to the train station, beautiful train ride to the location (from Nagano)
The property is located right opposite Matsumoto station, easy to find. Love the Japanese style breakfast - the menu includes all the Nagano delicacies (it’s absolutely fantastic!) also the breakfast area overlooks the Japanese Alps. Very relaxing vibe. Highly recommend the place.
Loved the cleanliness, the room amenities (clothing steamer/dryer was cool), the proximity to subway...and the breakfast was the BEST of all the hotels we had stayed at while in Japan (a total of 7). Next time we go to Nagano, this is the hotel we will come back to!!
