Very clean, very good rooms, very nice open air bath. Staff upgraded us from two bedroom to four bedroom for free. Didn’t try breakfast or dinner. Private outdoor baths are available for reservation and would highly recommend doing so, although they don’t contain showers.

Hakone Retreat villa 1f in Hakone provides adults-only accommodation with an open-air bath and a garden. This ryokan offers free private parking and a 24-hour front desk. Private villa with large outdoor onsen, wood burning fireplace, grand piano, bluetooth sound system (inside), unique twists on typical western breakfast, and immediate cart pickup to the on site restaurant and café when needed. They can control the temperature of the onsen remotely with a call to the desk. No TVs so there are no distractions, but there is wifi for streaming music. The bus from Hakone-Yumoto or Odawara stations drops you right at the hotel. The front desk will pick you up from the bus stop. Do not recommend walking the long way through the property, I would have gotten lost. A bit far from all the restaurants in the area, but you don't book a private villa to go into town. Highly recommend for the winter months if booking a villa. You will not find a better private experience. Truly amazing and unforgettable if you want to splurge.

Secluded area that felt resort-like. The staff had reasonable command of English and were always helpful regardless. They provided umbrellas for walking around the property and on excursions and there was complimentary drinks - including alcoholic beverages - at reception. The toiletries were nice and you could grab extra items easily at the front desk. The included dinner and breakfast were really delicious and a wonderful experience. The private onsen was a nice introduction to the Japanese hot spring experience.
The Japanese style room was totally beyond our expectation. The room is very clean, bed is comfortable and warm, bathroom has everything we'd need. In the room, it also provides full bottle of water in the water boiler, along with a full tea set! The in-room dinner and breakfast is a completely blow-away experience! The in-room onsen also provides the convenience to my daughter to enjoy the hot spring without going to the public area.
Beautiful Japanese ryokan in a magical setting. The multi-course kaseiki dinner and traditional breakfast were superb, with all the dishes impeccably presented and absolutely delicious. Our lovely hostess, Kyoko, graciously served us and patiently explained every dish using goggle translate. The onsens had great district views and we emerged from the hot spring water feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. We would love to come back here again!
The place is best to experience the Japanese hot springs without feeling crowded. The staff was really kind and treated us like their friends/family. The shared hotspring area is really clean and spacious. The private hot spring was my fav. part.
Our stay at Hakanowa Hot Spring Inn was wonderful right down to the little details such as complimentary sweet treats, a free gift, the yukatas, filtered water, the private onsen, and a streamlined check-in / out system. Great value-for-money in the Hakone region. We would definitely stay again!
The room is very spacious and comfortable, you get more than double the sizes compared to the usual hotel rooms at similar prices in Tokyo or Osaka. Although at first glance, it might seem a bit expensive, the dinner and breakfast in the halfboard option are both very delicious and with great portions. Considering what you get, it's very good value too. The paid private Onsen (hot springs pool) is also a very enjoyable experience.
Staff very attentive and the room was very clean. The fact that they had 2 different onsen sources was really good as I tried all of their rental hot spring baths during my stay. Breakfast and dinner very good and substantial.
The hotel had a lovely Hot Spring Onsen and provided clean robes every day. Private onsen if desired (we didn’t use). Reception staff were helpful. Included breakfast was fantastic.
Very authentic traditional ryokan experience. The staff/owners were very welcoming and kind, trying their utmost to accomodate us. As an example, as they do not offer breakfast or dinner, we were offered to order from a list of local restaurants and they would pick up the food for us. The also offered to liason to make restaurant reservations. The rooms were spacious, well-kept and comfortable. The two reservable private Onsen were very clean, spacious, and comfortable.
