Loved the suite with onsen. It's very clean and the service is impeccable although she is not so fluent in English.. Bed is very comfortable. Took half board with breakfast and dinner. Highly recommended!

Had the most incredible stay at Hakone Honbako. I have been to Hakone several times and this is the only hotel I have found very quiet and relaxing, and this resort exceeded my expectation especially in terms of food. The food was impeccable. They are explain Edo culture on the dishes, also provide explanations in Japanese and English. In the restaurant, everyone gathers around the counter and there is a unique sense of togetherness. There was a new discovery: experiencing Edo culture, which even the Japanese do not know.
One night is not enough, I will want to stay at this hotel for two or more nights to enjoy a good book and a meal.
Hope to be back again one day!

The staff is really friendly and they welcome you with snacks and drinks.
The rooms have an amazing private Onsen on a nice terrace but there is also a public one (divided between man and woman).
Breakfast and dinner are amazing and the give you free drinks and snacks after dinner.
The rooms are really big and they give you all kind of facilities. From shampoo, skin care, toothpaste, clothes till food and inciense.

Absolutely incredible staff from the moment of arrival to the moment of departure. In particular, Yuuta was so helpful, attentive, and downright elegant.

Very friendly staff, they explained everything very detailed. Nice private and public onsen. The hotel is very easy to reach from Gora station. Everything was clean and there were rooms where we could take water, beer and some little snacks for free.

Although walking into the lobby the hotel looks a little dated, the room I stayed in was very modern and spacious. The staff were very attentive and spoke good English. The hotel offers a free pick up from Gora station or you can take the ropeway two stations up and walk 10 mins down the road to the hotel. The breakfast was a set menu, with a choice of juice and eggs.
The location was brilliant - a short walk from Gora station (along a flat road, rather than straight up a very steep hill for many other hotels). The rooms were sizeable, and the beds comfortable. The daily breakfast was nice too and included a good balance of Japanese / Western options. There were also snacks available in the common lounge from 3pm, and a great coffee machine, which was accessible throughout the day.
The location is very good and close to the Gora station. The room was so cute and comfy with Japanese style. There's a private onsen that you need to book in advance but it's very nice for relaxing. The staff may not speak English very well but they're so nice and friendly and share everything about this hostel with the guests.
Location was quite far from the station (as in you couldn't walk it) but the hotel provided a free shuttle and were very generous in their use of it to assist us. When the shuttle was not in operation they also helped us to book taxis and one night when no taxis were available they even sent a car down to collect us as we were stranded at the Gora station. Really enjoyed our stay- biggest room we had by far of any of the hotels we stayed in in Japan

Good location, close to the cable car station, easy to reach. We got out at Kami-Gora station but you better get out at Sounzan Station then you don’t have to climb the steep hill with your luggage.
Ideal location for a day of visiting Hakone!

Such a relaxing and peaceful place to stay in Hakone! The room was spacious (which is a rarity in Japan)! They also provide shuttle bus service to Gora Station which is helpful, but it's also close to a bus stop if you need another way to get around :) The hotel staff were friendly and accomodating, and the breakfast was an experience!
