We live in Cairns, which is only a 5.5-hour drive away from Townsville. We use the town for quick get aways and shopping not available in Cairns.
Plenty of good places to eat with lots of variety from drive through to quality restaurants.
Getting around is pretty easy if you have Google maps or similar. It's very spread out and there seems to be multiple ways to get to some destinations.

Loved the area with friendly people everywhere.
Loved the area with friendly people everywhere. Went to the Museum which my Great nephew really loved. All hands on. Went to Kirwan Bowling and had a great time with all our extended family.
Also went to the Tavern and had a wonderful meal which didn't cost too much.
Spent time on The Strand at the Waterpark and all the kids had a ball splashing around.

It is a nice city surrounded by some rainforest, farmland and bush. Lots to see and do. I loved the museums. I loved the botanical gardens; the hill overlooking Townsville is five minutes drive away from the hotel and you can drive or walk up it. The esplanade is worth the walk. Lots of places eat and drink along it.

Townsville is a relaxed, growing city with good restaurants in Palmer Street and along the Strand. Easy to get around and always peaceful on the water front. Magnetic Island is a quick ferry ride away.

I live in the area and I feel it has a lot to offer by way of sun and beaches or beautiful rain forest with gorgeous fresh clean cool sometimes cold running waters at your fingertips to enjoy . Shopping and night life at bars cinema cafe restaurants or theatre, your choice .
Also NRL football stadium
The apartment is very comfortable and well-located for all our activities. The internet was not working when we arrived but the owner, Steve, devoted several hours to fixing the problem. The apartment is close (walking distance) to the bus hub and to the restaurant hubs, City Lane and Palmer Street. I also liked that the beds were not made up with doonas (duvets), which is so often the case in accommodation even when in the tropics, such as Townsville. Instead a blanket and a light coverlet were provided.
I was a little concerned after reading other reviews but .......Views and location were awesome. Right on the Strand with seaviews. . Bed was comfy, and the air con was amazing!!!!! Was a bit strange when we asked about pricing and were told we would get cheaper if we went on to Booking.com or something similar, which we did and saved $35 on a room. A bit of a muck around but at least they were honest about it.
Overall nice place would definitely stay again.
Great hostess, Chris, was filling in for her vacationing sister. Very warm and welcoming. Gave us great advice on what to see and do during our limited time in Townsville.
The motel was very clean, comfortable and in a safe, walkable neighborhood. It was quiet and provided free parking at our door. Our room was spacious and well-appointed and everything worked.
excellent location.. great variety of food outlets within walking distance . there are buses and taxi within walking distance.
room with a great view of the strand ,magnetic island and ocean. self contained 1 bedroom,. small but clean and comfortable.... on site secured parking .
The hotel is in a great location, near but not too close to a good shopping area and not too far from the ports. There is a wide choice of restaurants nearby and some grocery stores not too far away if you wanted to use the cooking facilities in the apartment.
The location was excellent. It was right on The Strand, close enough to the cafes yet peaceful at night.
Our host was excellent. He made us feel welcome and provided helpful information about the property as well as local knowledge about Townsville.
The central location in Palmer Street was terrific. It was easy walking distance to all of our places of interest including the Queensland Country Bank Stadium for a Cowboys game, The Strand for sightseeing and lunch, and Flinders Street for dinner.
Hotel is on the Strand. Very close to the beach, walking path and right in the middle of all the Strands attractions. Very basic kitchen facilities. Hotel let me check out early and refunded the nights that I didn't stay but had paid for.
Excellent location on The Strand & good value for money. Room has excellent views of Magnetic Island. Room was fine & cleaned daily. Short stroll to cafes & rock pool for swimming. Short car ride to Palmer street & Castle Hill
One of the best hotels I've stayed at in Townsville yet - I am a frequent work traveller and it's always a bonus when I find somewhere new that is worth the change to my usual acccommodation.
Good price. Great location. Located behind the Vale Hotel & Dan Murphys. Close to servo, library, Stockland Shopping Centre, Maccas. Not far from hospital too
Self contained spacious apartment. Comfy large lounge. Great size outside area with fantastic views. Good walking distance to The Strand and Flinders Street.
