Situated on the beach in Santo Domingo, 45 km from San Juan del Sur, hostal Eco-Lodge La Chiponga boasts a sun terrace and views of the mountain. Altagracia is 6 km away. Free private parking is available on site.

I had noticed la chiponga when I arrived on ometepe and was exploring on my scooter .It looked beautiful. very creative and artisic from the camino. I was already booked in somewhere else for 3 days. The place I was in was nice, but very inaccesable due to a long dangerous driveway to the hotel. Sometimes they dont show you those things on their booking site,. The property is gorgeous. Several sculptures and a beautiful watrerfall feature. They had almost completed a bar in the same crative theme right on the lake, I had my own bungalow with a bath and kitchen. Goreous view of the lake . Easy access to several excelllent restaurants. The staff were really helpful and freindly. They arranged a hike of the volcano and atually took my boots to a Zapataceria to be professionally fixed They directed me to the waterfalls as I wanted to do this myself They gave me great tips and ideas for things to do on the island A Nica rodeo, an awesomome hands on tour of Imoerial miel. A business in Atagracia where i participated in beekeeping and honey production. Would highly recomend. Didnt find any mention of these activities online or thru any other tour companies. Each morning I woke up to inquisitve monkeys poking their head thru my open door (totally safe) and parrots landing on my wall First thing I heard was the sound of the waves on the beach and after I opened my curtains and door an incredible mirador. I would recomend renting a motorcycle or scooter while on the island as it is generally very affordable and the best way to see everthing as well as really just a blast. Word of warning Stay away fom Dinartes scooter rental in Moyogalpe. I should have read their reviews. Thre are loads of very ethical angencies whowill not shmooze you and give you subpar machines. With their help I was able to replace my scooter and replace it with a much better one .

Set in Santa Cruz, Raindance features an outdoor swimming pool, garden, bar, and free WiFi throughout the property. The property is non-smoking and is situated 1.7 km from Santo Domingo Beach.

Every room includes a private bathroom and a shower, and certain units at the hostel have a terrace.

Out of all my years travelling, I’ve never found somewhere that has ticked literally every box. It’s so clear that the owners have spent many years backpacking as everything has been thought of from a back packers perspective. As well as amenities, the vibe is so goooood. The chilled nights are chilled and the party nights are banging. The music and food, the staff, the location, everything! Thank you soooo much to Charlie, Styx and the gang for looking after me and attending to my every need. I’m so gutted I had to eventually leave. Love and appreciate you guys! May we meet again! I reccomend rain dance to everyone.

Looking for a hostel?

Budget travellers know that there is no better way to make the most of their trip than by staying at a hostel: save money for exploring during the day, and swap stories with fellow backpackers in the shared kitchen or bar in the evening. Dorm-style bedrooms with shared bathrooms are standard hostel fare, but private rooms are also available for those willing to pay a bit more.

The room was very clean and quite cheap. The staff Hostal Rancho was super nice. We felt really welcomed and home there. Also the small town of Altagracia was a very nice surprise! It is very cute and idyllic.

We had a very nice stay! The town is not so popular with tourists, so if you want to be with the locals this is the best place to be. They will arange a scooter for you. It is a good base to explore the Ometepe Island.. Totally safe and the owners are super nice. Delicious breakfast! 🌋🥰 Thank you!

Tatiana was friendly and helpful and the hostel had beautiful views of both volcanoes. We were able to rent a moped from the hostel and were recommended some good places to eat, plus a tour guide for the volcano hike. The hostel is located away from the road so it is nice and quiet, but you would need to arrange transport (either taxi or tuk tuk) from the ferry port as it's about a 30 min drive away.

Lizz was SO nice and so so helpful. she helped us organise ATVs and scooters, gave us helpful tips and maps of the island. the day we left she made sure we got on the public bus ok. Lizz’ mama was amazing too and cooked all our meals , they were absolutely delicious and everyone ate together which made it feel like a home away from home. we stayed here because of the reviews and we’d recommend it to anyone! Beautiful local family who are very kind and working very hard to run a amazing hostel. THANK YOU for having us :)
