Beautiful hotel. Very comfortable room, very clean and unusual in all hotels, dressing gowns and slippers supplied, lovely touch. Elemis was the choice of toiletries, very impressive. The breakfast, waiter served which I love. The food was piping hot and so tasty. The toast which normally wouldn't impress was just gorgeous. The staff were great in all parts of the hotel. Great work all around.

Ivyleigh House, hotel in Portlaoise

A Georgian town house conveniently located between Main Street and the railway station, Ivyleigh House in Portlaoise offers elegant bed and breakfast accommodation.

It was an excellent stay. I travelled for work and need somewhere to spend the night not to go back to Dublin and the hotel exceeded my expectations. Friendly owners, lovely room, quiet at night. In the morning I had breakfast in a luxurious Victorian dining room. Breakfast was pleasantly unusual as well, as I am not a big fan of the Irish breakfast (although that option was available as well should you want it). Overall, fantastic stay - I got back to my work commitments refreshed and in a good mood. Thanks a mil to the owners

We loved the stay in this big, beautiful and well equipped house. It was very comfortable, had a nice outdoor seating and lot of space. The big supermarket is just by the corner and you can also find a couple of pubs and cafés in a walking distance.

Wanted to eat in proper Irish pub with live music as we have done at several other locations. Loads of bars, none serving food. Plenty of takeaways but didn’t want to sit on a bench to eat. Stayed at end of holiday so wanted to take home some local produce, cheese, bread, cakes but just one supermarket selling same as UK. Handy stopping off point between Killarney and Dublin but little else going for it

The town is not what we expected!

The town is not what we expected! There are so many pubs and restaurants who do both sit down and take away meals. Lots of live music coming from several pubs walking up and down the town. Very nice place! Only 50 minutes from the Red Cow so we were able to get the Luas into Dublin. Although we drove ourselves, we saw lots of taxis so I'd imagine it's very easy to get around.

I reviewed Harry Potter Themed guest house, in the house room 4. The response I received was appalling to say the least. To say I should have booked the Hilton because I mentioned we had to collect our key from a table, with no one to give us bath towels that were not supplied in the bathroom and that the shower was dirty and not cleaned since last person used it and foul smell in the bathroom. Also no fire escape plan and dangerous exposed wires for the lighted cotton wool over the bed is childish and insulting. I am not posh in any way. Just expect a clean safe room. This is not a response anyone should expect from any accommodation.

Portlaoise is well located in the midlands of Ireland about 1 hour S East of Dublin. There are many historical, cultural and scenic locations in close proximity and it is a great stop over if travelling further south to Cork Kerry and further afield- - but dont just stop over spend a few days exploring the area of Laois - The Slieve Bloom mountains, The Rock of Dunamaise, several golf courses, fishing, cycling, the round tower of Timahoe, Stradbally steam museum and a host of other places too!! The town is just off junction 16 & 17 of the M7 motorway and has great bus and train service too. There are a variety of hotels & b&B available with urban and rural locations to suit your budget. Check it out! : )

The hotel was beautiful. We were very impressed with the staff. They were very helpful and approachable. The hotel was immaculately clean and little touches such as staff delivering juice and chocolate lollies to the rooms, for the children in the evenings, was very much appreciated. The leisure facilities are excellent and the staff work very hard. Kelly’s Steakhouse is first class. We ate there 2 nights and we were incredibly impressed by the venue, staff, menu and food. Absolutely incredible!

Everything about the hotel was fab, we arrived to the genuinely welcoming smile of front receptionist Nina, an absolute pleasure to deal with, helpful informative and just lovely. The room was great, we had breakfast delivered and it was scrumptious. On leaving we met Jonathan, again a fantastic representative funny and extremely helpful. We'll be visiting again thats for sure!!

The breakfast was fantastic...the best we had in our 9-day stay in Ireland. The location was convenient to the train station and close to town where all the shops and restaurants were. The inn was quaint. Be aware that check-in time is 5. We were kindly accommodated for our early arrival. (If you arrive early you might not be able to get in at all until check-in time.)

When first checking in I was presented with the breakfast menu for the following days. It had a variety of options but as I was mostly using public transport I stuck eating cereal. It is also perfectly situated halfway between the train station and the main street, with a multi-story car park and cinema across the street.

Pleasant stay, owner was v. Nice. Room could have done with a tv that had free to air channels, as only has now tv, which needed to be paid for in order to watch. (Not great to be fair). "Welcome" note only had a list of charges for breaking the rules. Room clean and warm.

Very well situated in the middle of town, super friendly staff, lovely spacious room, room and bathroom were spotless. Breakfast was lovely. I think Portlaoise (abd Laois in general) is not enough advertized by Tourism Ireland but this lovely town has stolen my heart!
