The rooms are in a separate building from the main pub which I liked. The room was comfortable and large with a good bathroom. Hot drink making facilities and a fridge provided. The location is pretty good if you are travelling by car (which I was) as the location is about a couple of minutes from the A19 junction at the North end of Thirsk. Also only about 10 to 15 minutes by car to Sutton Bank and into the North Yorkshire Moors. Travelling by train would be much more difficult. Whilst there is a station at Thirsk it is out of town in completely the opposite direction maybe three miles away. Breakfast was fried up on demand rather than microwaved so that is a definite plus.
Situated between the Yorkshire Moors and Yorkshire Dales National Parks, this hotel is listed as one of England's oldest coaching inns and overlooks the cobbled market place in Thirsk.

Fabulous resort with many facilities. We loved our weekend away there
We love Thirsk.
Also all the places we can visit from there.
Always have a meal in Bianco's.
Vale of York has been taken over and done up. We were surprised at how well it looked after our visit last July.
Went there for a couple of drinks. But next time will go there for a meal too.

It was fun to see where author James Herriot (Alf Wight) lived, worked, and wrote. The nearby church where he was married is nice to visit and there are nice shops and restaurants in the village. We ate at The Golden Fleece and had coffee and pastry at a bakery. The train station was about a mile from the village; we walked it, but there are taxis that can be called. The village is very walkable.

Some interesting shops, Herriots was good value for money and the walks around the town were lovely although there was snow on the ground. Good entertainment in the Golden Fleece watching the staff cock up all the orders for meals and drinks! Beware of the unpleasant traffic warden who comes all the way from Scarborough so has to earn his corn and also the pieman opposite Neros which we happen to cross swords with.Staff in Herons and the Coop were exceptionally helpful.

Thirsk is a lovely place to visit.
Thirsk is a lovely place to visit. There are many cosy teashops (Upstairs, Downstairs was our preferred choice with a great selection of snacks, main meals (including daily specials) and cakes! A great Italian restaurant (Bianco), which I can highly recommend - but do book - we booked for a Wednesday evening and it was very busy! There is also a good selection of bakeries for yummy cakes, cookies and breads! Lots of charity shops for a few bargains, Co-Op, Boots & WH Smith. There is also a large Tesco supermarket just out of the town.
A visit to Thirsk wouldn't be complete without a visit to The World of James Herriot - it was brilliant!
There is also a lot of parking, both short and long stay.
All in all a great time was had by us, and I wouldn't hesitate in returning to Thirsk again!
Room was well decorated, warm and inviting with a very comfortable bed.
Quiet as not in or attached to the pub.
I was really only there to sleep for a couple of nights, but it is roomy enough with sofa and side tables, so using it as a base for a longer holiday would be fine.
Breakfast menu has several options, all generous.
Nice pub, told the food is great for lunch and evenings too.
Rural, with nice country views.
The location - just yards from the James Herriot Museum and a short walk to the town centre/marketplace.
The house itself - it's lovely and charming, I could happily live in it! The beds are comfortable, the shower is excellent and all the rooms have nice decor. The welcome chocolates were much appreciated too! I would gladly stay again if visiting Thirsk in the future.
I like the idea of a key safe. Thirsk is a very good central location and has most everything you would want. People very friendly and helpful. Interesting town too. Cottage location was great, easy walk into Thirsk and getting about to other places. The cottage is a good size for two people. The owner was very helpful. WiFi and TV very good.
Lovely room with everything you could need. Iron, ironing board, fan ,toiletries several choices of tea and coffee. Comfy bed. Free car parking. Hotel was beautifully decorated. Thirsk is a lovely Market town with lots of places to have a drink or something to eat.
Fab base for a visit to the local area. Lovely host, lovely rooms and facilities. Breakfast was delicious 😋. Well worth a visit. The area was delightful, very quiet. An excellent choice for a mini break at a price that will not break the bank. Thanks for having us.
Beautifully appointed clean cottage. Everything you could possibly (and extra!) need was provided. The hosts were amazing, so friendly and welcoming. The area is beautiful and quiet, it's a short walk to Thirsk centre and ideal location for exploring too.
Hotel was in town centre so very handy for Herriot museum, eateries and buses. Geoff was very friendly and always ready to offer advice on the area when we needed it. Room was very clean, breakfast just right and set us up for the day.
This was my second stay at the Kings Arms after a lovely first stay. Just as before, nothing was too much trouble for the friendly and helpful staff and the Kings Arms will be my first port of call when I’m working in the area 💖
Beautiful peaceful location. A very comfortable cosy cottage with an excellent kitchen which has everything you would need for a self catering break. Would definitely return if in the area and would recommend to others.
Lovely and big garden area with lots of places to sit and chill, nice peaceful location. Very friendly and helpful staff. Great Breakfast. Comfy room, if not very big .
Good friendly staff. Menu good. Lots of parking. Hotel convenient from A1 and close to Thirsk. Staff at breakfast were courteous.
Village pleasant to stroll around.
