The Black Horse, hotel in Swaffham Bulbeck

The Black Horse, a property with a garden, is located in Swaffham Bulbeck, 14 km from University of Cambridge, 32 km from Audley End House, as well as 34 km from The Apex.

The breakfast was a big let down to be greeted by : there is no juice and no cereal. Then having to ask separately if we were allowed tea and/or coffee. There simply wasn't and service that would be normal in terms of expectations.

Bedford Lodge Hotel & Spa, hotel in Swaffham Bulbeck

Set amid rose gardens, this peaceful hotel has luxurious modern facilities and its architecture dates back to the 17th century. Excellent cuisine is served in the award-winning Squires Restaurant.

The location and grounds are excellent and the staff professional and attentive. The beds and pillows were so comfy. We ate lunch and had breakfast at the hotel and the food and quality ingredients were top class.

This is not a stay to enjoy unless you are really hard-up for money. It is under a new change of ownership. They have a lot of work to make the stay acceptable. Everone was very nice and very willing to make our stay enjoyable. At the moment they are failing. The worst accomodation we have ever stayed in. The cost is the cheapest we have ever stayed in although the breakfast was not worth the charge of £10. Sorry everybody trying to make a go of the business, but I think you need to assess your capabilities and have empathy with your customers. I know you wanted us to critisise if we were not happy during our stay but we hadn't got the time to list all our critisisms and it would have taken us too long and been embarassing. Sour milk at breakfast inedible toast and a filthy floor in the shower room/toilet unforgiveable. You knew we were coming. The room was cold on arrival and no attempt to acknowledge the need for one Gluten Free breakfast although we had mentioned it in our requirements. It is basic to service the room for the second night - not done. Did not take Amex card for payment Sorry! I hope you can improve the situation.

In the park opposite the Black Horse there is a park, if you go to the trails off the park you have a number of options for walking. As one of the knowledgeable locals generously gave us some history, over a drink, relative to the area these were made all the more interesting. The history of the fens and the area in general is intriguing.

Excellent hosts.. lovely and accommodating.. nice area though it is rural. Onsite restaurant and bar so no need to search for food. Accomodation was lovely. Love the positioning of rooms. Would definately recommend a visit for either drinks, food or overnight stay. Would definately go back if I was in the area...
