Excellent hotel throughout. We stayed on a "steak night" so it was busy in the bar/restaurant making for a great atmosphere (steak was good also). The room looked newly decorated and was very comfortable with excellent facilities. Staff were very friendly and professional. Breakfast really good and freshly cooked. Would definitely stay there again if in the area.

old cricket pavilion, Riding mill, Northumberland, hotel in Slaley

A lovely little cottage which was comfortable and had almost everything we could have wanted for a one night stay. The staff were happy for an earlier check in time which was really appreciated as we were at a wedding at Healey barn for 2. The cottage has a comfortable seating area in front of a fire. Bring some wood if you want to use it. A comfortable bed, well equipped kitchen and shower and toilet. The location is great for visiting near by towns like corbridge and hexham and as mentioned we were attending a wedding at Healey so this accom was great for that.

First impression was very good, lovely, impressive building and great grounds with short walks. A great location for golfers but maybe a bit remote for tourists wanting to do some sight seeing in the area. Staff were polite and welcoming. However some staff at breakfast were a bit casual in the clearing of tables and attention to detail. I asked for porridge one morning and my order was completely forgotten. We found restaurant/bar prices to be over inflated. As a result we chose to eat our evening meal in Hexham, Corbridge or the local pub in Slaley village where they greeted us warmly.

We booked a special break away in Slalely Hall after recommendations from family and friends. Although the grounds and indeed the hotel are impressive there are quite a few little details which are missing and this makes one think they are overpaying somewhat in terms of price. Whilst the staff are friendly and helpful in most cases in the restaurants the service is extremely slow. We had to wait sometime for our meal to be served and were given drinks after the actual meal was placed in front of us. We then enjoyed a nice meal at the Restaurant but had to wait over 30 minutes merely to pay despite trying to get the attention of staff. In the end four tables were forced to line up to pay for their meal, surely if staff had cleared plates and been attentive they could have offered coffee and further drinks from a business perspective. The lack of service just seemed to leave a negative memory from what was a pretty good meal. Food-wise the claret and jug menu was limited, and over-priced; indeed the price of a burger was the same as one in the more 'upmarket' restaurant. Note to all - avoid the chips at the claret and jug - cold and tasteless. Room-wise the room was nice and spacious with a superb view; furniture was tired in places but the cleaning staff here were brilliant and like most of the staff we met friendly. The Spa was not as you would assume from a Hotel and Spa venue - it was a little more Centre Parcs rather than tranquil, regenerative, escape. Families and children and minimal loungers - again for the price you are paying you expect a little more from your experience. All in all a venue with a big reputation which perhaps is missing the finer details, service; cleanliness and quality.

This is our second stay in as many months.

This is our second stay in as many months. The first we found the place looking very dated, tired, grubby in areas which shouldn't be and quite a lot of shabby damaged furniture and the toilets next to the restaurant being out of commission (resulting in a long walk to the nearest ones). On the recent stay most of this furniture in the bar had been replaced which improved the appearance. The main problem on this stay was lack of sleep due to a dog in the neighbouring room. Long periods of unanswered calls to the front desk meant we just had to put up with it. At over £200 a night it's a bit of an insult not expecting a decent sleep. I think we'll be looking elsewhere in future.

We visited for one night, we visited the spa, treatments were great, staff very polite and friendly. We had evening meal in the main restaurant which we thoroughly enjoyed. The hotel grounds are beautiful and within the hotel its very grand, very well keeper, lots of cosy rooms to sit and relax with a nice cocktail. We found breakfast a little disappointing, food on the hot buffet was little cold, there was still plenty of choice so it didn't spoil it for us. I would definitely return to the hotel and spa.

Beautiful location and the old buildings are impressive. Grounds are gorgeous. Room was disappointing in comparison, tired and needs upgrade. Food was nice but again didn’t reflect my higher expectation. Still a lovely place to visit.

The hotel & spa themselves were lovely in beautiful surroundings. However the hotel food was not good. No room service. Tea / coffee / milk & sugar not replenished once despite asking reception to do so.

Lovely comfortable property with all the mod cons needed for a short break. Located in a quiet part of a small park with beautiful surrounding woodland walks. The hot tub once warmed up was an added bonus and great fun. The onsite staff were helpful and friendly and the towns of Hexham and Corbridge a 15 minute drive away. The community pub the Rose and Crown in Slaley was tremendous value for money and along with this property very dog friendly.

The hotel gave a feeling of being welcomed into a home, with genuine warm smiles -- very different from the dead-eyed plastic smiles in many of the chain hotels. I think this comes from being community-owned -- we have had a similar experience in other community-owned hotels.
