Gorgeous location with fantastically attentive and welcoming hosts. The room was cosy and immaculately clean, with a lovely selection of teas and biscuits (that my other half made quick work of). The continental breakfast was high quality and plentiful. We hope to return in the future :)

The welcome at Matfen was lovely, being seated in the great hall while your car is parked by concierge and bags taken to the room is a great touch. Our room was spacious enough and we had a lovely little balcony with views to Matfen village which is 2 minutes away. The rooms were spotlessly clean and great amenities including fresh milk, the decor of our room is a little tired but it didn't detract from our stay. I also had a fantastic facial in the spa and we used the pool, sauna and steam room which were very good. Then to Emerald restaurant which was incredible such a wonderful surrounding to enjoy delicious food and a great bottle of South African Pinotage. We definitely recommend a stay here and we loved it so much we have already booked again to stay in December with our parents. See you again in a couple of months. Possibly our new favourite getaway hotel.

We had an excellent stay at Matfen. The hotel and spa are fabulous and the staff were very professional yet friendly and welcoming. Grounds are well kept and the location is very good for walking and sightseeing.

The setting is gorgeous. The hotel is full of character and period features but also completely up to date and luxurious. We had an outstanding stay, it exceeded our expectations and we would return in a heartbeat!
We were on a bed, breakfast and evening meal basis. The food was delicious and staff helpful, attentive and friendly.

We had a lovely visit, the hall and grounds are gorgeous, staff were very friendly, rooms immaculate and food was delicious.
I enjoyed a wonderful treatment in the spa to finish off a most enjoyable visit.

Sits in a very scenic location near the village of Matfen but also near Newcastle and Hexham. A very impressive looking hotel and inside did not disappoint. There has a lot of character. Food was good and staff excellent. Perfect hotel to have a relaxing break and plenty around if you want to see things eg Hadrians Wall or Corrbridge. It also has a lovely spar but best to book treatments in advance.We will definitely be going back.
Booked our stay at Matfen Hall for my wife's birthday and we had an amazing time. All of the staff made us feel welcome and relaxed from the moment we entered the reception. I could not fault the service provided by the whole team and we both feel it was the best customer service we have ever received. Our meal in the Cloisters Restaurant was fabulous and the recent refurbishment of Matfen Hall has taken this beautiful old building to the next level in our opinion.
We booked independently for a wedding night - on arrival we were upgraded and were given the most beautiful , luxurious room - absolutely amazing!!! The wedding night was lovely and our breakfast the next morning was delicious but I have to compliment the staff - everyone we spoke to were pleasant, polite and helpful- a credit to the hotel. The grounds of this hotel are beautiful and the hotel itself is a stunning building.
We had a wonderful stay at Matfen for my husband's birthday. The staff were friendly and efficient as always. The room we stayed in was beautiful, having recently been refurbished. There have been changes to the outside area and the grounds are looking beautiful. My husband played golf, which was easy to book and I enjoyed walking the 18 holes with him, on a perfect afternoon weatherise.
From first entering the hotel to when we left all the staff were friendly, courteous and could not do enough to make our stay as pleasurable as possible. The food was first class. The room was excellent and we took advantage of the balcony when we got back from a day out.
I very rarely leave reviews but our stay at Matfen was faultless throughout. Beautiful setting, exceptional rooms (we got a free upgrade), very attentive staff and great food - an excellent anniversary stay and we're already planning to g back.
Everything about our stay was exceptional, and I mean exceptional. Location was perfect , staff were incredible, first class in fact . The Pool was amazing and the meal we had at the hotel a very high standard. Great exparience.
Staff were professional and helpful and the hotel itself is beautiful - the refurbishment work that has been done is exceptional and to see the hotel decked out in the Xmas decorations made it extra special.
