The Loft Studio apartment - above detached new build garage, hotel in Llanymynech

Set in Llanymynech and only 22 km from Whittington Castle, The Loft Studio apartment - above detached new build garage offers accommodation with mountain views, free WiFi and free private parking.

The Loft Studio is a newly purpose built single room apartment (plus shower room /toilet) in a very quiet country location 3 miles off the A483, so easy to reach & explore the area. We were only staying one night, other than enjoying the evening view from the covered veranda on a damp day we had little time to fully appreciate the facilities. The bed was comfortable for a good night's sleep.

The Lion Hotel, hotel in Llanymynech

The Lion Hotel has a shared lounge, terrace, a restaurant and bar in Llansantffraid-ym-Mechain.

The homemade cod, chips and mushy peas were very good and fairly priced. Other than a bit of noise from revellers drinking at the bar below ( it’s a pub after all, so was half expecting this when booking), it’s situated in a quiet area. The room was clean and warm enough.

There is a wood-burning stove to provide heat as well as bottled water. There is a good view from the window and terrace.

The good services in town (if open) are the Bradford Arms Hotel (great food) and the corner Cafe nearby. Otherwise, not much here. There's an interesting short hike to the hilltop above town and the outdoor industrial museum (lime kiln) nearby.

Filthy room, sticky armchair, feeble shower, misleading...

Filthy room, sticky armchair, feeble shower, misleading website, no food despite website, misinformation about local facilities. As for the tips for a great review that Booking, com provides, my favourite places were those I saw in the rear-view mirror, I ate in a pub the hotel did not recommend since the one they did didn't do food either. It is easy to get around Llanymynech because there's nothing there, although it is mercifully easy not only to get into but also out of. What would I avoid on my next visit: the whole experience. And, although I have used Booking.com as my default hotel booker for at least a decade, I would - I will - be very much more careful about the hotels they list: they have a duty of care to their clients which, at least on this occasion, they absolutely failed to deliver.

The village itself doesn't have a lot to offer but it is well located to travel around locally (less than 45 minutes) to find some beautiful towns, waterfalls and activities to do. Lots of pubs to choose from (be warned not many serve food late on a Sunday). Travelling by road is as you as you would expect for Wales B roads connected by lots of single lane tracks but lots of passing places and all drivers we came across were considerate.

It was our first stop walking The Monty.

It was our first stop walking The Monty. It made the first day a bit long but there was no option. Good places to eat for such a small town. We ate in The Bedford Arms, Despite the heat they still put on a meal for us.

We were looking for accommodation for our Offas Dyke run. As soon as we entered the hotel/Inn we were so warmly welcomed by our hosts. They had only recently acquired the property but have set about refurbishing the rooms, lounge and dining room with enthusiasm. We had a lovely stay , comfy bed and a shared bathroom . Hosts were so welcoming and are obviously well liked by the locals. They are creating a great atmosphere and the hotel has brilliant potential.

What an amazing evening we spent in the Jungle Room at this fabulous hotel. From the lovely warm greeting on arrival to the farewell wishes, the owners make you feel like part of the family even if you’re only in their company for a few hours. Beautiful decor, comfy bed, tasty breakfast. We had a lovely, peaceful stay.

Room was very good, well equipped, clean, and had great wifi. Rest of the hotel has a derelict, about-to-fold feeling. Doesnt open the doors till 5pm, no meals Mon-Wed.
