All the staff, whatever their role, were lovely – friendly, helpful, and always ready with a smile. Room service was efficient. Small problems dealt with immediately. Breakfast was all that could be wished, with choices to satisfy the fussiest guest. The hotel's waterside location meant we had some delightful views morning and evening.

Lincoln was a powerhouse of medieval England and retains amazing monuments from that period. In the Uphill district is the castle built for William the Conqueror. Inside its an original copy of the Magna Carta and its ramparts offer fabulous city views. Across the cobbled square which houses the large Christmas market is huge Lincoln Cathedral whose unusual façade features 2 tall towers, while another at its centre overlooks the Bishop’s Palace.
Connecting the cathedral quarter with the Downhill district is aptly named Steep Hill, a narrow street lined with unique shops and historic buildings including the Jew’s House. Even older are the Roman Newport Arch, Mint Wall and the well on Bailgate.
This road slopes down to meet the River Witham at High Bridge, a stone-arched structure with a half-timbered building atop that is the oldest of its kind in England. Lincoln boat trips depart from the Brayford Pool just west.
Another monument is the 18th-century Ellis Mill, opposite the Museum of Lincolnshire Life. The Collection combines an archaeology museum and art gallery, while The Lawn has a conference centre and the Joseph Banks Conservatory, displaying artefacts he brought back from adventures with Captain Cook.
Booking.com’s Lincoln accommodation covers luxury waterfront hotels, guest houses by the university and cheap apartments near the train station.

Lincoln is a city dating back to Roman times with many buildings and ancient remains to see. It's more recent history associated with WWI and the invention of the tank can be discovered in the museum of Lincolnshire Life, and its WWII connection to bomber command, the Dam Busters and the RAF can be explored in the poignant International Bomber Command centre and memorial. Lincoln has a very lively pub and restaurant scene, catering for every taste. The cathedral quarter is the most scenic although car parking can be at a premium.

Stunning cathedral - would recommend the floor and roof tours and the cafe. The Victorian prison in the castle and the ramparts walk are well worth visiting.
There is a very steep hill (called Steep Hill!) linking the lower and upper part of the city where the historic centre is.

I love Lincoln!
I love Lincoln! I have been 3 times now and keep finding interesting places to go that I either didn't have time for before or hadn't come across. The view from the Castle is amazing - suitable for all weathers. The Victorian Prison inside the Castle is unique and well worth a visit. The Cathedral is breathtaking with a wonderful restaurant attached, helping to extend my visit there. Lots of shops, cafes, bars, cinema, theatre, galleries, etc. Everywhere is welcoming and good value for money.
Perfect for a long weekend but also enough to do for a week's stay. I travelled by train there and could walk to everywhere easily. I have used the buses as well, which are easy to navigate.

I regularly go to Lincoln to visit family and stay for a few days when I can. Some parts of the old town area are difficult to access due to cobblestones and narrow pavements with mobility aids. The cathedral is well worth a visit. Shops and restaurants are plentiful.

Lincoln is two towns, a lower one which is like many towns in England and an upper town, which is special. At the centre is a square across which the cathedral and castle face one another. The cathedral is so large and impressive that it dominates everything else

Great venue for a weekend away - you can walk everywhere (steep slope up to the Castle andCathedral). The Cathedral is stunning and the Castle worth the trip on it's own. The £16 ticket seemed a lot, but it was well worth it. A guided tour outside, a walk with audio set around the castle walls, a visit to the old prison and, to cap it all, to see the Magna Carta (one of the four existing copies in existence).
With the cafe on site we spent a very full morning seeing everything - allow 4 hours to do it justice.
Our room was fantastic, we had a double room apartment on the top floor - it was so spacious, the beds were huge and very comfortable. We loved the bathroom, with a shower and separate free standing bath. Tea, coffee making with biscuits were in the room too and lots of space in the wardrobes for our clothes. The continental breakfast was really good with lots of options and the staff were so friendly and welcoming. The hotel looks onto Lincoln Castle so the views were incredible. Would highly recommend and will be staying again!
For those who enjoy walking, excellent location, walkways to city centre well maintained. Hotel accommodation is separate from main building ensuring privacy. Rooms are spacious , well presented & all mod cons. The Hotel is picture perfect and staff more than helpful. Breakfast varied & plentiful, Full Breakfast was very tasty. Evening meals offered a good choice. We had Stilton Burger and Haddock, both were delicious. Definitely a place to stay if visiting Lincoln & surrounding area.
Yet another lovely stay at this hotel. The Holiday Inn at Brayford wharf has many benefits including its locality to Lincoln city centre and a vast selection of bars and restaurants nearby. The rooms we have stayed in were clean, well equipped and comfortable with a great view of the wharf / marina area. Their breakfast menu is comprehensive and falls nothing short of excellence. The staff are all very friendly and welcoming. Cosy bar area with a very relaxed atmosphere.
This hotel is my favourite place to stay in Lincoln. It has a homely, friendly feel and the staff are a delight. The building and amenities are beautiful and cosy. I personally really like that a delicious croissant breakfast is delivered to the room and that there is milk, orange juice and water in the fridge. I upgraded this time to a deluxe room to get a bath and it was a beautiful bath, as well as the room having a stained glass window with great views.
The Hamilton Hotel is spotlessly clean, and comfortable, and shows signs of a recent renovation. Parking is excellent. It is a level, easy walk (about 1 mile) to Lincoln city centre. The kitchen/diner is well equipped, and would be ideal for someone looking for self catering but serviced accommodation. I chose a room with a private bathroom, which was tiny but adequate. The bed was comfortable, and the room had all the amenities one expects in a hotel.
Excellent location, literally round the corner from the Lincolnshire Museum (highly recommended) and an easy 10 minute walk to the historic city centre. Local shops very good, particularly fish and chip shop on Burton Road.
Lots of accommodation in this amazing house, all very comfortable. Appreciated the garage parking too, and small lawn for our dog.
Very convenient location, especially for the older part of town (although the whole of Lincoln is easily accessible by foot). The apartment is spacious, light, and peaceful. Lovely communal and outdoor areas for preparing and eating basic food (microwave, plates, sink, etc... anything that doesn't require an actual cooker!)
I love everything about the apartment and the location. It was just a 2-minute walk to the Lincoln Castle. I was welcomed with a bottle of champagne and cakes. Everything was perfect. And yes, aside from the smart TV, there was a DVD with an array of movies to choose from, which brought back some nostalgic memories for me.
What a real gem sometimes we are so use to using chain hotels we forget about independent places, in the upper town oh Lincoln not far from the cathedral very steep walk into town but easy taxi service if needed really good breakfast with lovely staff our bedroom was beautiful really charming would 100% stay again
The transformation of this great old Lincoln institution has been magnificent: the quality of the refurbishment and attention to detail is wonderful. It’s now back to being the great hotel it once was. Can get some excellent rates for B&B on this website, making it Lincoln’s luxury bargain. Congratulations!
The hotel is in a fantastic location, right on the waterside at Brayford Wharf, so very close to bars and restaurants in Lincoln. The breakfast was good quality, in the restaurant at the top of the hotel, so the views across the city were nice. The staff we encountered were all very polite and helpful.
We have stayed at Windmill Farm several times in the past. As before the rooms have been comfortable and the breakfasts have been good quality. The hotel is close to where my wifes daughter lives so it very convenient for when we visit her.
As before when we stayed, the breakfast was very simple and delicious. Lovely buiding and a nice sized comfortable room. Very convenient location for the more interesting shops and cafes in Lincoln.
Very friendly staff supported by a good kitchen all in a hotel in an excellent location with close views of Lincoln's cathedral in the heart of Lincoln's historical district.
