Lincoln was a powerhouse of medieval England and retains amazing monuments from that period. In the Uphill district is the castle built for William the Conqueror. Inside its an original copy of the Magna Carta and its ramparts offer fabulous city views. Across the cobbled square which houses the large Christmas market is huge Lincoln Cathedral whose unusual façade features 2 tall towers, while another at its centre overlooks the Bishop’s Palace.
Connecting the cathedral quarter with the Downhill district is aptly named Steep Hill, a narrow street lined with unique shops and historic buildings including the Jew’s House. Even older are the Roman Newport Arch, Mint Wall and the well on Bailgate.
This road slopes down to meet the River Witham at High Bridge, a stone-arched structure with a half-timbered building atop that is the oldest of its kind in England. Lincoln boat trips depart from the Brayford Pool just west.
Another monument is the 18th-century Ellis Mill, opposite the Museum of Lincolnshire Life. The Collection combines an archaeology museum and art gallery, while The Lawn has a conference centre and the Joseph Banks Conservatory, displaying artefacts he brought back from adventures with Captain Cook.
Booking.com’s Lincoln accommodation covers luxury waterfront hotels, guest houses by the university and cheap apartments near the train station.

Although we know Lincoln well, having lived in that area until 15 years ago, we were surprised that not everything was open for example the Bishops Palace. Lincoln can be an ideal city break but everything needs to be open. However we still had a great 3 days, Visited November 20124

A truly unique interesting and historic City but not stuck...
A truly unique interesting and historic City but not stuck in the past, great for historic buildings, some good museums, good individual traditional old pubs for Real Ale drinkers but the big chains are also well represented, great local food, pork products especially sausages and pork pies, plum bread, cheese, specialist Tea and coffee to buy and take home, plenty of cafes and coffee shops if you are thirsty, regular events in the castle and cathedral quarter including various guided walks etc, Theatre Royal plus other nightlife if that's your thing.
I go frequently, always something that I haven't seen before.

Cathedral is a must.
Cathedral is a must. Don't visit Lincoln without taking a tour around the cathedral. Castle tour was also good, although it's more of a prison than a castle now - but there's still a lot of history there. Strugglers pub worth a visit if you like real ale and real pubs.

The Cathedral is stunning.
The Cathedral is stunning. We saw it for the first time when it was illuminated after dark and we walked through the archway to see the West Front in all its glory. Ticket prices include guided tours.
The walk up Steep Hill leads past beautiful little shops and cafes and the cobbled streets in the area are full of character. The Pie Shop is a great place to eat and Mary the waitress who served us is so friendly and welcoming. The Castle is also interesting with great views of the Cathedral and the very interesting Victorian prison.
We went on a Ghost Walk which as well as the ghost stories, which were told with great enthusiasm and flair, included historical information. The Strugglers pub is a great place to chat with friendly local people.

I have never visited the old part of the city, and the house...
I have never visited the old part of the city, and the house is located in Bailgate which is one of the oldest areas, so plenty of lovely architecture and interesting history to be discovered! The cathedral is absolutely stunning - we went late on a Sunday afternoon so it was free, but because there was a service we couldn't see the whole of it so you'd have to balance that with paying the rest of the time. The city is incredibly dog friendly, which was a huge boon to us. We also had a wonderful lunch (we didn't take the dog but they do have dog friendly areas, just make sure you let them know when you book) at The White Horse on Hungate - excellent food and service :) You have a huge range of shops in the new town should you need them, but also a great range of independent shops and cafes around the old town too, so lots of choice. The castle was an excellent day out - it took most of the time just to do the castle walls, so worth paying just for that if you are short of time. Car parking in general is quite expensive, though.

Room was nicely decorated, the pool and spa facilities were good, the bar was a really lovely area, we didnt eat in restaurant so cant say but looked nice. We used hotel as base to see lincoln which was short drive away, or was bus stop we noticed directly outside hotel on main road into city centre.
We did wander over to the brewers fayre pub to sit outside in garden there as weather was lovely and next door so convenient.
Hotel looks better inside than the rather dated, tatty, outside of it.
Excellent location, literally round the corner from the Lincolnshire Museum (highly recommended) and an easy 10 minute walk to the historic city centre. Local shops very good, particularly fish and chip shop on Burton Road.
Lots of accommodation in this amazing house, all very comfortable. Appreciated the garage parking too, and small lawn for our dog.
Parking available at the hotel, £10 for 24hrs. Located 10minute walk to the 'Engine Shed' where I went to a gig. Hotel clean, nice bar area and clean room. Competative on price and would stay again if visiting Lincoln. Late checkout at 12:00 is always nice!
We stayed at The Tower Hotel as we were attending a concert at Lincoln Castle .
It was a great location and right in the centre of Lincoln for all amenities and restaurants /bars etc
