Lincoln was a powerhouse of medieval England and retains amazing monuments from that period. In the Uphill district is the castle built for William the Conqueror. Inside its an original copy of the Magna Carta and its ramparts offer fabulous city views. Across the cobbled square which houses the large Christmas market is huge Lincoln Cathedral whose unusual façade features 2 tall towers, while another at its centre overlooks the Bishop’s Palace.
Connecting the cathedral quarter with the Downhill district is aptly named Steep Hill, a narrow street lined with unique shops and historic buildings including the Jew’s House. Even older are the Roman Newport Arch, Mint Wall and the well on Bailgate.
This road slopes down to meet the River Witham at High Bridge, a stone-arched structure with a half-timbered building atop that is the oldest of its kind in England. Lincoln boat trips depart from the Brayford Pool just west.
Another monument is the 18th-century Ellis Mill, opposite the Museum of Lincolnshire Life. The Collection combines an archaeology museum and art gallery, while The Lawn has a conference centre and the Joseph Banks Conservatory, displaying artefacts he brought back from adventures with Captain Cook.
Booking.com’s Lincoln accommodation covers luxury waterfront hotels, guest houses by the university and cheap apartments near the train station.

If you like history and culture you will like Lincoln. The cathedral quarter and Steep Hill together with the castle are fantastic and not a busy as expected. Parking is at a premium so plan ahead, there's plenty of places to eat & drink and we can recommend The Tower for good value excellent food. We were in Lincoln to see Maisie Adam and the Theatre Royal is a superb compact venue and highly recommended.

We walked round the Castle walls, steep steps but well worth it for the view.
Very steep walk to the river and shops, there is a bus going there every 20 minutes for £3.50 all day ticket.

Lincoln is a beautiful City.
Lincoln is a beautiful City. It is not a large City and steeped in beautiful buildings. You must go up steep hill (not for those with walking difficulties) and see the Cathedral and Castle. Keep walking upwards for other individual shops and pubs. At the other end of the City is Brayford Quay. Lots of restaurants and a great atmosphere - its very pretty at night. In the City centre you will find all the usual shops and restaurants. It

Lincoln Castle & cathedral quarter is a must visit, walk up through Steep Hill it's very pretty. The Museums are worth a visit and some are free, I only stayed a few days so didn't have enough time to do everything. Avoid parking in the city centre, their prices were nearly £10!!

Welcoming staff and atmosphere with comfortable room and all necessary amenities and a delicious breakfast. It made a late check-in for an overnight stay restful and its close proximity to the University ensured being on time for my appointment.
great location, very nice clean en-suite room. I stayed for a couple of nights over the weekend. very welcoming staff, the owner Darren was very considerate and was very helpful in efficiently getting through the contactless checkin. in my opinion this guest house is way better than the local chain hotels, has more character and is way cheaper in comparison. situated only about 15 mins walk from the city centre is an ideal location. would highly recommend and would definitely stay there again if I’m ever that way again!
Lovely rooms, great location as close to all amenities. There’s a shop opposite, an Indian restaurant to the right of the hotel and the best pub in Lincoln ‘the Strugglers’ directly opposite. A short walk into the shops and pubs and then if you can get back up take the steep hill to the river and city centre. A fabulous break and lovely welcoming people that’s why we keep returning.
The property is ideally situated in a beautiful area of Lincoln.
