Found a couple of eating places we really like. First visit to Jojo's tea room - we will call again.
Excellent circular hop on/off bus tour - great views and a good way to see the surrounding countryside.
Town centre still looking a bit down at heel. Some of the road layouts/crossings are confusing. Nearly got run over twice outside the train station because I was looking the wrong way.
Seemed to be a lot of noisy motor bikes speeding around.

What a great base to stay. You can easily get a train to nearby places such as Lewes and Brighton.
There are plenty of places to eat and a number of food stores such as Marks & Spencer, Tesco if you fancy some snacks.

Very clean with good facilities.
Very clean with good facilities. Pier looking very tired with quite a few of the small shops closed which is a shame as definitely one of the main features of the town. Lots to do round town and along the coast. A visit to Harry Ramsdens for fish and chips a must

The bus service was amazing.
The bus service was amazing. As pensioners we were able to use our bus passes to visit Pevensey Castle and Hastings.
We also went on the open-top tourist bus, which took us on a circular trip to Beachy Head - unfortunately it was very misty that day, so couldn't enjoy the spectacular views.
We ate out on three occasions and can recommend Shimla Indian restaurant, Little Elephant Thai restaurant and Gr/eat Greek Restaurant.
We were hoping to get information about buses at the Tourist Information office (which was located on our little map in the centre of town). However, we were told it had been moved ten minutes out of the centre, which we felt was a very poor decision, since the original was near the train station and right where people would need it in the centre of town.

Hmm, Eastbourne.
Hmm, Eastbourne. Like many Victorian seaside resort towns, there is a faded glamour about it. The seafront and promenade are nice, and nearby Beachy Head is beautiful. Unfortunately, the town centre is a bit generic and down at heel, as well as the pier. Only about half of the restaurants seemed to be open. However, there are attempts at revitalisation, with the art gallery for example, and some of the larger houses outside of the centre look a bit genteel. Maybe gentrification will come soon, after people are priced out of Brighton, or dare I say it, Worthing and Hastings.

I was disappointed about the general cleanliness of the town...
I was disappointed about the general cleanliness of the town and areas away from the sea front. Bins were emptied but litter around them in Marine parade was not cleared.
The gardens were full of weeds along the sea front beds and not the usual display of flowers The remnants of the Burlington Hotel remain an eyesore and spoil the once good image of the seafront. (May be its a listed building)
The guy who dealt with us could not have been nicer,he was welcoming, informative and very polite. The hotel is charming and in a great location right at the seafront and just a few minutes walk to the shops and train station. We had full English breakfast which was lovely and good value. The room we stayed in was small but satisfactory for a couple of nights stay ,if I was staying longer I would book a larger room . Ample tea, coffee toiletries etc, hairdryer, iron and fan .Comfortable open seating areas on the ground floor and a small bar.
Great location; very welcoming staff, nice personal attention. I'd requested twin beds and the room was made up ready. This doesn't always happen, several times in the recent past, in other hotels, we've had to wait for the room to be re-configured after check-in; comfortable bed and pillows in a lovely room. Thanks to the Victorians for building high ceilings and big windows, the room felt spacious, light and airy. A very enjoyable stay, would definitely book again.
On the hotest day of the year they had no fan or ac in the room and when we asked for a fan on 4 occasions they still did not provide us with any throughout the 2 nights we spent. The room was also very dirty. Hence, the heat in the room made this leisure time for us that from hell. Staff were not helpful in anyway. We will never be coming back to this hotel. However, the area was very nice with lots of activities.
Given the price I paid, I was not expecting too much from the hotel but was pleasantly surprised at how nice it was. Although a little dated in decor, it was clean and well maintained and all the staff were pleasant and attentive. Room was a single but quite spacious and had everything needed for a decent nights sleep and a nice desk area for work.
Food was very good both evening meal and breakfast.
Very friendly and helpful staff; really a credit to the hotel. Renovated, clean, warm room with modern TV and Netflix etc. Good coffee and tea facilities in the room. Nice bar area. Great seafront view. Useful lift. On street parking all around the hotel.
This renovated hotel provides a good alternative to the usual other ones in the area. Some of which are really past their best.
Wonderful location, definitely had a room with a view, but upset with booking.com saying the room was a lot larger than it actually was. The hotel and the staff we couldn't have wished for more, every single member of staff where so friendly nothing was too much trouble. Our four legged friend was definitely the star though I think he definitely wants a return visit.
The hotel doesn’t serve breakfast at the moment but they can provide a really excellent bag with croissants, yoghurt, butter jam etc. at the reception. I liked the room decor which retained some original features with modern lighting. Loved the fish wallpaper on the feature wall.
Also, they give you a handy map of nearby restaurants (with discount vouchers).
Nice quiet location in a residential road with plenty of driveway parking. 3 minute walk to a nice quiet beach , 10 minute walk to local food shops and a 20/25 minute walk along the seafront to Eastbourne Pier and town centre bars , eateries etc.
Apartment spotlessly clean with modern decor. Everything you needed for your stay .
This is a great little hotel, situated on one of Eastbourne's seafront squares. Ran by a fantastic team who go out of their way to make sure that your stay is a great experience. Struggling like everyone, they have somehow managed to keep prices low, whilst refusing to sacrifice their ethos.
The location is perfect! Rooms are clean. Staffs are kind and friendly. Breakfast is good. It was one of the best places we stayed so far. We did not stay in a room with sea view, but you can definitely consider a room with view. The view of hotel is remarkable!
Location on seafront very nice.within walking distance to shops and eating places.also bustop few yards from hotel if you wanted to have trip to Hastings or Brighton and leave car behind.Eastbourne has a nice shopping centre undercover.
we really enjoyed our stay in this hotel. Lovely Victorian grandeur, perfectly suited to Eastbourne. Just a stone’s throw from the pier and seafront gardens. Live entertainment every night, very good food in the restaurant, perfect!
Staff on reception really helpful, breakfast area staff were really kind with elderly guests, getting their breakfasts if they couldn't go up to get their own. location was great, on the seafront, and hotel car park available.
The staff were very polite and made us feel very welcome. The hotel very clean and tidy. Situated in a ideal area close to outdoor amenities, ie seafront, bars and some restaurants.
- hotel is full of character
- staff was really friendly
- close location to the seafront
- free parking on the road not too far from hotel
- breakfast was decent
- easy check-in
