The White Horse Inn, hotel in Deddington

The White Horse Inn is located in Duns Tew, around 20 minutes’ drive from Bicester.

The room was a nice size and had coffee and tea selection. The Rituals toiletries in the bathroom were also a nice touch. The property had a really sunny beer garden so it was perfect to relax and have a sundowner in the evening. Mike was really friendly and organised us a cab in the morning when we were looking to leave the property.

The George Inn, hotel in Deddington

Set in Barford Saint Michael, 21 km from Blenheim Palace, The George Inn offers accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a terrace and a restaurant.

From a secluded car park in a pretty little village we walked through a pretty garden to be met by a friendly staff member who showed us to a fabulous garden room. We were stunned by the decor and the facilities. It was so comfortable, quiet and had a large bathroom with a bath, excellent shower and beautiful English countryside toiletries. Organic tea and a coffee maker was provided and bottled water. Breakfast was excellent - beautiful products freshly cooked and plenty of choice.

The Lismore Hotel, hotel in Deddington

Situated in the historic market town of Banbury, The Lismore Hotel is an impressive Victorian building with a restaurant, and free parking.

Nothing! The room stank of gloss paint - it was overpowering. The bed was ok, however the linen was “brand new” and still had the manufacturers dressing on it. The bathroom had a lock on the outside of the door, but, importantly , not one on the inside of the door. The mirror was suspended by string, was heavy, and if dislodged would have caused serious damage. There were no net curtains, to provide some privacy at ground floor level. The television didn’t work. The only light switch in the room meant having to switch off, by the door, and then blindly find your way to bed. There was no catering, no breakfast, and no evening meal. The man on the desk was very rude and not helpful, or interested. To be charged £120, for this lack of any hospitality, is an insult and a disgrace. The “hotel” should be closed until such time as it is able to provide any hospitality. The description on booking.com, is absolutely and totally misleading. We were advised £100 and then billed for £120, adds insult to injury. And it makes our faith in booking.com, severely tested, and in doubt for any future bookings. There are many other booking agents.

Lots of great pubs and restaurants.

Lots of great pubs and restaurants. We ate at puddingface and it was excellent and really busy. Had breakfast at Hook Norton brewery. Well worth a visit. Free entrance and another lovely cotswold village.

The bed was comfortable. The pub attached is characterful and (obviously) sells alcohol which is (obviously) a plus. Friendly staff upon check-in and throughout the evening in the pub. Breakfast was a good bonus, and was of a good quality, although I didn't realise it was included, so had already purchased and brought my own breakfast with me which turned out to be a waste of money. The hotel is in Duns Tew, which is ideal if you need to be in Duns Tew, as I did.
