Radisson Blu Hotel, Durham, hotel in Chester-le-Street

Just 1 mile from Durham Rail Station and city centre, the Radisson Blu Durham has fantastic views of Durham Cathedral. It offers stylish rooms, free WiFi, a restaurant, bar and modern health club.

The staff were excellent from the moment we arrived, to the moment we left. The room was nice, though the TV tuning was dodgy, but we weren't there to watch TV, so it didn't matter to us. It was so good, we are looking to book a weekend away at a location that has a Radisson Blu, so in effect, the hotel will be the attraction.

So much to love and enjoy at Lumley.

So much to love and enjoy at Lumley. The historic location and building are exceptional. The beautiful grounds and planting greet you first, there must be a team of skilled gardeners maintaining it. Inside the castle it's snug and welcoming and the music is gentle, relaxing and unobtrusive. The food was fabulous. I had a lamb dish followed by sticky toffee pudding, I highly recommend both. I noticed the interesting vegetarian alternatives on the menu. Breakfast was a delight, a buffet with cold meats, cheeses, breads, fruit salads, yogurts, breads, etc. And of course a good choice of cooked breakfasts. We had the full English breakfast, very tasty, next time I'm going to try the Craster Kippers. Our room was lovely, we stayed in a superior Courtyard Room. The bed was huge and extremely comfortable. The shower was powerful and easy to operate. All the staff were friendly and so willing to help. Everywhere was spotlessly clean. We spent time sitting in the Library Bar or outside in the secret garden. It was a very relaxing stay and we felt very well looked after. To top it all, in the morning when we were checking out Lady Poppet Lumley took time to chat with us, in all her feline loveliness. Thank you everyone at Lumley for a wonderful stay.

Lots of history,if you choose to look for it .

Lots of history,if you choose to look for it . Laid back ,with nice friendly Geordies only to happy to help you, with advice and directions . Do not forget to take home a tub of pease pudding and a stotti cake ( flat bread cake ) . Stotti ,ham and a thick layer of pease pud ,is addictive. Also sample the local corned beef lattice pie ,with a touch of brown sauce , very tasty. Go and have a coffee or a breakfast,at Lumley castle , you won't regret it . A lovely, centuries old , place ,full of character, with lovely staff.

Chester-Le-Street has had a poor reputation for along time but that is the past and the new Chester-Le-Street is improving significantly. Worth a visit and definitely if you get a chance to stay overnight at Lumley Castle. Real value for money and food is exceptional. Highly recommended just for the breakfast and dinner.

Very good value for money, breakfast included. Room was clean and the bed comfortable. Only irritating issue was the bed, which had a large frame! Resulting in bang on the knee or, if avoiding it, a bang on the head from the tv :-)

Fantastic hotel, comfy beds, clean and spacious rooms. Breakfast was just fantastic- arguably the best breakfast we've had in a long while. The pub food was also brilliant (we had pizzas). The staff were very friendly, always smiling, and particularly helpful when we needed a travel cot and they didn't have one so the staff went out and bought one for us. So helpful. We really appreciated that so thank you! Would 100% recommend.

Friendliness of all the staff and the locals. Reasonable priced food and drink plus got 10% discount on food and drink for being a hotel guest. Everywhere was kept spotless . The food was very good, well cooked and plenty. The rooms were a good size clean with plenty extras. The only thing I would improve is to have two brighter lamps by the bed side table. Beside that perfect

We have stayed in other historical hotels and have often been disappointed. However, Castle Lumley did not disappoint. It retains its old charm as well as being a very comfortable place to stay. The staff were welcoming and helpful and the Castle an authentic piece of history. We would recommend this hotel is you want to step back in history.

We loved everything about this hotel! We were hoping for an "authentic" castle experience for our honeymoon, and our state room did not disappoint. The decor in our room, including a "secret" door, was incredible. Staff was wonderful. We also had both dinner and breakfast in the on-site restaurant, and they were delicious.

Lovely staff and felt very welcomed. Room was big enough and very clean. Pleasantly surprised that towels were refreshed every day and tea / coffees / biscuits were replenished. Really appreciated that the hotel let me to bring a couple of guests for breakfast one morning, for a very reasonable additional charge.
