We stayed for two nights and used for a base to visit Beamish and other surrounding Roman sites. The room was comfortable and all the staff and Landlady were very friendly. The pub itself is very welcoming and the locals were very friendly and the noise was barely audible upstairs even with the live music on the Saturday night (which was very good by the way). The breakfast was really good with cereal options and full English with toast. We went to a pub called the shepherd and shepherdess inn a short drive or 40 minute walk away for dinner. Food is excellent and reasonably priced. We would definitely stay again when we are in the area.

We were attending the Monument Festival so the location was ideal.
The staff were very friendly in all areas.
The shower was hot and powerful, just be careful of the step up which is a bit dangerous.
Nice laid out airy flat with tasteful minimalistic decor. Great location 2 mins to bus stop, taxi £6 from centre and 15 min lovely downhill walk to centre. Nice residential area really quiet.
Bed linen and towels spotless, bathroom and kitchen surfaces clean. Cooker, microwave and friidge also clean.
Easy to find, good location and easy parking. The evening meals were good value and the menu varied.
Our room had been recently decorated and was very clean, although they might regret using plain carpets, there were already some coffee stains.
Great location,2 mins walk from town centre,we were attending a wedding in Lumley castle which was close by,also close to the cricket ground and nice river walks, spotlessly clean and comfortable, kitchen well equipped.
