St Leonards Farmhouse, hotel in Blandford Forum

Boasting a garden and views of garden, St Leonards Farmhouse is a bed and breakfast set in a historic building in Blandford Forum, 19 km from Monkey World.

The room was small but well-equipped. Breakfast was excellent. The host, Tania, went out of her way to facilitate a slightly-earlier check-in which was appreciated. There was even a well-behaved squirrel in the room, adding to the rustic ambience, although it was somewhat larger than the real thing and carried a shopping bag... whilst the name suggests a rural location, it's actually at the far end of Blandford's main street so the shopping bag made sense.

We had gone for a funeral and had half a day to spare - we really enjoyed walking around the town which was full of history and character; very attractive with lots of independent shops and friendly locals. Would definitely like to come back and see a bit more.

Our family had a great visit.

Our family had a great visit. So much to keep the kids and adults happy, pool, tennis, games room, couldn't, get us out of the hot tub. Wish we'd had time to do more walks, the woods and surrounding country are beautiful. We felt some of the kitchen appliances could be updated, and water pressure for bathrooms improved but overall the house was amazing and a lot of effort has been made to provide everything guests could possibly need.

Blandford is quite a compact medium sized town with good restaurants and easy access to shops. The Morrisons carpark leads to a lovely park, riverside walking area. It is an interesting, historic location; midway between National Trust properties, such as Clouds Hill, the house where Lawrence of Arabia lived and museums, such as Bovington Tank Museum. Dorset is a beautiful county with seaside and country locations.

Blandford Forum is a small country town with plenty of character. There are lovely walks by the river, some very charming pubs and places to eat. The main Hotel the Crown has Live music and a terrace to enjoy a drink. The town has interesting quotes carved into the pavement and some attractive historical buildings as well as a market on Thursday and Saturday, and lots of little interesting boutique shops. If you are looking for old-fashioned charm and a quiet retreat with occasional entertainment, this is the perfect place for you

Blandford Forum town centre is needing a bit of TLC like many English towns now. Too many charity shops which is a sad reflection of local council management. Wonderful town walk down to the river Stour though. A few interesting restaurants would be an added attraction for all generations, as well.
