The UK's 2nd largest city, Birmingham is one of its top cultural centres. Well-known for the M6 Spaghetti Junction interchange, it is a surprisingly green city with lots of open spaces.
Most city centre hotels in Birmingham are near New Street Station. To the east is the futuristic architecture of the new Bull Ring shopping centre, and just behind is Digbeth Coach Station. To the west is Victoria Square, home of the town hall and a German Christmas Market.
The Mailbox is one of the newest additions to the Birmingham shopping scene, and behind it is one of the canals converging on the Gas Street Basin. By one canal are the ICC (International Convention Centre) and the NIA (National Indoor Arena), both venues that host major events.
Just opposite is Brindleyplace, a canal-front complex of restaurants, bars and hotels near Broad Street – the main nightlife area. It is popular with students at nearby Birmingham University, whose clock tower is modelled on the one in Siena. Just south in Bournville is Cadbury World, and there are several hotels on Hagley Road to the north, which are available on Booking.com.
The city is also known for sports – Aston Villa and Birmingham City are the top football clubs, while Edgbaston Cricket Ground hosts international matches. Other Birmingham attractions include Hockley’s Jewellery Quarter and the NEC arena by Birmingham International Airport.
I live the German Market that was on at the moment.

We were able to walk to the city centre and enjoy the German Christmas market and Bull Ring shopping centre. I'm sure Birmingham has loads more to offer but we only had a few hours. We had booked tickets to see Faithless at the O2 Academy. Both the venue and the band were excellent.

This trip suited me as I was visiting family and friends.
I do find it a little busy.
So if your looking for a quite getaway it's not for you.
On the other hand. If you like to shop it would be perfect.

We came for daytrips to the Black Country Living Museum and Warwick Castle so we didn't have a lot of time in Birmingham itself and spent most of the time in and around the Bullring and Grand Central shopping centres. We did visit Victoria Square but the whole area was preparing for the Frankfurt German Market so many of the grand open spaces were full. I would have liked to have seen some of the parks and museums but we didn't have the time. The local people were very friendly and approachable. As the 2nd biggest city in the UK it is not particularly cheap but the Wetherspoons in New Street Station was excellent value for money and we managed to get seats in the Odeon cinema for £5 each when bought online. There are also extensive internal and external markets where bargains can be found.

We wondered around the city centre and enjoyed the lights. There was Xmas set up going on in the city centre which was exciting to see for what’s to come in December. We explored around and loved the canal.

Lots of people and traffic, I know it's a city but just an eye opener for me from the 'quieter parts' of Britain. Big Cities, of course, also increases the amount of litter, the number of beggars and druggies about and even more taxi/Uber drivers ignoring most road signs and them doing what they want then we have the police sirens....wow they seem to running from job to job on blues every time as it seemed like every few minutes , there was another going off.
But you felt safe, probably due to number of people still about late at night, plenty of Hotels, lots of old and new buildings etc to see and experience but how, there wasn't a riot when the city council first built the 'council house' building, I'll never know! Talk about over the top exuberance looking after themselves!! WOW!!!
Then you got the trams of course, The Bull ring and the Grand central station which seemed bigger than the shopping centre itself as every alleyway seemed to take you back to it!

Our room was very clean and comfortable which made for a great nights sleep, everything we needed in the room for a short stay. The location is very central and perfect for Birmingham city centre, discounted secure parking available a short walk away from the hotel which was ideal or very close to Snow Hill station if arriving by train! We also enjoyed some drinks and great service in the bar which were excellent!
Some reviewers complained about the dodgy neighbourhood. I don’t know where you snowflakes are coming from. May be you are from a village or from the past able to time travel.
All British city centres are like this. It’s part of city life.
The location is central and cheap.
If you are a big girls blouse stay in an overpriced hotel on broad street :)
The Park Regis is a very nice hotel in a good location for Birmingham city centre. The decor is plush and up-to-date and the rooms are a good size with large beds. The staff on reception were very nice and checked us in relatively quickly and gave us rooms next to each other. All in all that is what I expect from a hotel of this calibre.
Breakfast was lovely and staff were very helpful. The location was perfect, at least, for me. Bus links into the city centre were a few steps from the door. a few of the attractions in Birmingham were a bus ride or two away. Tesco was right across the hotel and access to other shops down Hagley road. Glad for this recommendation.
This hotel is extremely good value. I had a very small room, for one night only. It is walkable to a bus stop with good bus service to city centre, or to Aston Railway Station, from where it is easy to get trains into central Birmingham (which is what I did!)
